... Just wondered if there are any other parents with a Xavier? Would love to hear your way of saying it and if you have any problems with the different pronounciations?

i'm not but a friend has one, pronounced zavvy-er

I have a Zavier, pronounced zavi-ey I guess, like French sounding if that makes sense?!?

Oh and I am always being asked if we're Spanish! (We're not)

We have a Xavier too (pronounced 'zav-e-er'). We love the name!!

MrsPatrickDempsey · 31/10/2013 12:39

My son's best friend is Xavier - he is age 11.

ladyluckylula · 31/10/2013 13:42

We're not either ... We say Zah-vee-ur. I've found it hard though with so many peoples takes on how to say it ...

Not Spanish that is!

It is a great name. My Xavier is only two and a wonderful little boy. He's just beginning to say his name and I've been thinking is it going to annoy him in the future that his name will always be mispronounced

My little boy is now 4.5 and has just started school so tries to correct everyone who doesn't say it correctly! Doesn't seem to bother him too much so far!

ladyluckylula · 31/10/2013 14:08

Ahappysoul: where do you tell people the pronouciation is from. I think we say it the same
... Or are you saying it 'zay-vee-er?

I'd only heard of it as a name from a toy classroom thing my children had with alphabet letters, when you pushed the button for the boy on 'x' he would say his name as 'ex-ay-vee-er' so until this thread I thought the 'ex' bit was pronounced.

Melon2312 · 31/10/2013 17:20

I've also heard it pronounced as 'ex' oddBoots so you're not entirely wrong!

We mostly call our son Zavi to be honest, have done since he was in utero. Does anyone else shorten?

Ahappysoul · 31/10/2013 18:05

Ladylucky - I think we do say it the same. I say that there are Spanish/French versions of the name but we have chosen the Hispanic pronunciation of the name (taken from babynames.co.uk). We actually got the name from a lad that used to be on home and away. Only boy's name that myself and my husband both really liked.

ladyluckylula · 01/11/2013 14:07

Hispanic - right! :-)
I was starting to get in a right flap over it because everyone questions it. We call him Xavy 'Zaa-vee' mostly. But recently I've started to say to myself that I have to call him by his full name. We pretty much named him when he was in my tummy too.
Other nicknames are: Zee, zavo, zoo, mr X
I also call him 'butternut squash' which suits him perfectly :-)
