Summer shoes/sandals for dd without socks - any chance?

I've tried, without success and subsequent red marks, to find suitable footwear for dd (2.4) so she can go without socks. It seems so unfair for her to be in socks in this lovely weather. Barefoot at home/garden is fine but out and aboout and at the CM is a no-no. Has anyone found a make or style that can sort this problem?

seriously my dd has about 8 pairs of sandals. she has a couple of pairs of toe posts and she has never triped or anything becasue of them.
i was worried about her slipping or grazing her feet too. but she has been fine.

they were so cute and she grabbed thems traight awayso i let her run around teh shoe shop wearing them for a couple of minutes...she seemed ok so i bought them....she now has different shoes for differetn outfits!

just look for a nice pretty pair of cheapo's and dont worry. they are usually open so they wont harm her fet at all.

my Next ones have two adjustable straps, buckle at front, velcro round ankle.

They don't rub that much, it was only MIL pointing out a slight bit of red that caused the probs, they were blissfully unaware beforehand.

Ds's doodles are open toed - they are WONDERFUL....(actually style is known as 'Fizzbusters', but have doodles on the back). Velcro fastening/ very soft and washable (a boon as ds has the smellest feet I have ever come across...)

I don't think you can beat ecco for comfort...
US site here
having trouble with a UK site....
dd has the Olympic Dash sandals (less ugly on, I promise!), and she has flat narrow sensitive feet, she loves them

wishfulthinking · 05/07/2006 13:06

LLT - those Olympic Dash ones look great - that's the kinf of thing I'm looking for....but in the UK.

we got them from a little independent shoe shop in bristol, they should be reasonably easy to find in the UK
where are you?

wishfulthinking · 05/07/2006 13:14

Hull - so not as 'cosmopolitan' as down south IYSWIM!!!!
However, I will google them and keep my fingers crossed.

phone a few shops out of the yellow pages, you should be able to find one that has them
good luck!

Clarks have some different Doodles this summer - open toe, with wide velcro at front and velcro ankle strap. Very soft, £12 - DD age 3 loves them because they have sparkles (white with sequins on) - they seem to be surviving pre-school OK. I know what people mean about the usual Doodles looking a bit dorkish - DD has a pair and her feet look huge in them.

fennel · 05/07/2006 13:28

dd3 (2.3) has those corkbed sandals from Next which Oliveoil linked to. £6.99. she doesn't wear socks with them, no rubbing.

the others had Clarks ones at this age (before we discovered cheaper sandals), which were also fine with no socks.

Both dss have Clarks Doodles - open toe 2 adjustable straps and they have never rubbed. Had them last summer too every other type I have tried have rubbed.

I'm fed up of trying to find the Ecco range on google so I'm going to check out Clarks (again) and Next. Poor doodles are getting a rough time but the one's dd has at the moment are ok - a bit '70's bo-ho-looking IMO (I wanted to write psychadelic.....but I know that's not how you spell it!)

Had this nightmare yesterday. DD very narrow footed and her feet slip through sandals, went to get some Doodles/canvas style shoes for her yesterday and ended up going to about 6 different shops. Finally got some but they have cows on them!

My advice would be Doodles!

hulababy · 05/07/2006 20:57

DD has some leather based Lellie Kelly sandles which she can happily wear without socks. She has very sweaty feet and needs the leather to stop rubbing.

sorry to hijac kthe thread - i know you shouldn't buy second hand shoes cos they will have taken the shape of the previous owners foot and won't support but if a child is not walking yet this wouldnt matter, right?

23balloons · 07/07/2006 16:34

bamboozleslover if a child is not yet walking it is recommended that they don't wear any shoes as they can damage their feet.

bamboozleslover · 07/07/2006 19:35

i don't mean proper shoes i mean the soft shoes
