Summer shoes/sandals for dd without socks - any chance?

I've tried, without success and subsequent red marks, to find suitable footwear for dd (2.4) so she can go without socks. It seems so unfair for her to be in socks in this lovely weather. Barefoot at home/garden is fine but out and aboout and at the CM is a no-no. Has anyone found a make or style that can sort this problem?

Damn and double damn....I thought they were going to be the perfect solution to my dd's red marks problem. You wouldn't believe how dramatic she is about her poorly, poorly feet!

sandals

fattiemumma · 05/07/2006 10:54

dd has LOADS.
admitedly they are all cheapy ones from adams or Asda .....she has a pair of tigerlilly's too though.

she wears them with no problems but she is such a girly girl she ust loves shoes and dressing up so i guess she is more receptive t them.

never had a problem....she will even wear toe posts and she's only 21 months.

Loads here

Sorry first thing on Google, feeling too lazy to find Clarks site

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 10:58

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

wishfulthinking · 05/07/2006 10:58

Perhaps that is the solution? Lots of different, cheaper varieties. When I think of toe post-types I just imagine lots of accidents, drama and tears.

you can get (in the doodles bit in clarks) canvas style sandals (and I think some of them were on sale last time I was in)

Bozza · 05/07/2006 10:59

DD also has doodles for indoor shoes for nursery because they are cheap (esp from Outlet) but properly width fitted. Nearly all of the girls and a lot of the boys have doodles for indoor shoes. DS used to have slippers in winter but think doodles probably more supportive.

Wonder if I am over precious about my children's shoes. Maybe I could get away with sandals from Next. At least for DD - would be quite surprised if they fit DS.

Bozza · 05/07/2006 11:04

DD's wrecked white sandals are similar to these on ebay . A good fit and seem very comfortable.

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 11:05

Mine have winter shoes from Clarks or Russell and Bromley, Start rite etc.

But sandals are usally cheapo.

In fact I will be off loading lots of hardly worn Clarks shortly when I clear my dumping ground of a wardrobe out. Form an orderly queue....

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 11:06

I HAVE THOSE IN PINK BOZZA!

Oops.

They were bought for dd1 who didn't walk till 17 months and dd2 didn't walk till 20months so have only been 'worn' in the buggy.

wishfulthinking · 05/07/2006 11:07

Am I right in assuming that buying on ebay means these shoes have been worn already? If so, I'm not sure I would go down that route. Clothes on ebay is another matter altogether...just not something I've got around to doing.....whilst at work!!!!

At least late walkers are cheap on the shoe front initially olive. I am really wrestling with whether to buy my DD cheap sandals or not (sad I know). Not really much point with DS who has a pair of Clarks but only wears them under sufferance. But would be nice to dress up my little girl. What size are the pink ones? Imagine if they are too small for your DD2 they will also be for mine who is a bit older.

wishfulthinking sorry for hijacking your thread.

serenity · 05/07/2006 11:10

Some have been worn, some are new. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying used shoes for DD now. At her size (9) shoes tend to get really worn, and would have shaped them selves to someone elses foot.

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 11:11

oh they are teeny tiny, my sister got them for dd1 when she was about 1!! Ridiculous really but hey ho.

About a size 2 iirc.

I have TONS of unworn stuff, I really must dig it all out and get a MN car boot.

Bozza · 05/07/2006 11:11

They will normally say whether they are new or worn. Most will be worn but there will be the odd pair of new ones. I also would not buy second hand shoes for my children. But then I can't quite bring myself to go into Next or Asda and buy a pair of sandals.

Bozza · 05/07/2006 11:12

DD's are the same sandal but this season's so slightly different flower on front etc.

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 11:12

snob!

Get ye to Asda, they have them for a fiver.

And I speak as a huge shoe snob.

wishfulthinking · 05/07/2006 11:13

I agree serenity.
More the merrier Bozza!
I also worry (why only have the one worry, when 6 or 7 is so much more interesting?!) about open-toe-types. Should I go and get a life!

mine have sandals (both clarks) which have a sort of neoprene-like (ie the stuff wetsuits are made of) lining so they don't rub even without socks. i think the secret is not to fasten them too tight and get a pair which adjusts with two straps, ie one across the front of the foot, the other around the ankle

serenity · 05/07/2006 11:19

Clarks told me that open toes sandals are not a good idea when the child has just started walking. They suggested closed in toes (ie Doodles!) but DS would only have been about 15mths at the time. DD had open toed sandals last summer but was a bit older (about 20 mths when I got them) and we had no problems. She didn't bark her toes or fall over any more than she did anyway, but she'd been walking 9 or 10 months by then.

Bozza · 05/07/2006 11:22

I think DD does fall over more in her open toed sandals but so be it. I have just brought her some with closed toes but in a similar style to the startrite ones I linked to but in red. They are lovely. Have kept the white ones for nursery and when she is wearing pink.

Agree with bundle about the two adjustable straps. Think I could do Next for DD if they had two adjustable straps.

bundle · 05/07/2006 11:26

also have had some success with birkenstocks as they don't have direct contact with the skin & dd1 didn't seem to have to "wear in" hers
