Fast breathing rate in 14mth old

Hi. I think our 14mth old is unwell. She is possibly teething - we were waiting for the back teeth to come through. She had a temp of 38.6 at 7 - it has come down after calpol but she seems to be breathing faster than normal. Its like a breath every second. She's not really sucking her tummy in - which I think is a sign of pneumonia ? - but its def faster than normal and she doesnt want to play. Just wants to lie and feed. No cough or runny nose etc. Waiting for GP triage nurse to get back to me. Any thoughts? X

Thanks. We managed to get into the end of go surgery. She had a temp of 39 again so GP said give paracetomol and ibruprofen tog then continue dosing with both all day. GP thinks just a general virus. Her breathing is faster but GP happy with it. Such a worry when they are ill.Hmm

Thanks yes - think the brufen and calpol tog was helpful - GP said to always do that if temp is at 39 - she then had a massive feed and sleep. Got a paediatric sample bag stuck on to try and get a wee sample first one abandoned after massive poo in case of UTI. Am giving the full 4 calpol and 3 brufen doses over 24hrs to see if that helps. Thanks for asking xx

Glad it's working. Stripping, lukewarm baths and going for a naked wander outside are good too (baby, not you. Depending on how friendly you are with your neighbours).

Good luck with the sample getting, it's not an elegant task. x
