bathing with a 2 year old?

me and my son still bath together. is this strange? our hot water is very expensive to heat and takes an hour per bath. he won't let me bath on my own, he wont like go and play or watch the telly until I'm finished or anything. hes just so happy to play in the bath with me! we dont have a shower either so makes it impossible to bath separate. the bath is LOUD and righht next to his bedroom so can't go when hes asleep either. just wondering if anyone else baths with their children x

If I had a bath I would. Ds is 2.6 and comes in the shower with me a couple of times a week. Soooo much easier than rushing through on m own and worrying what he has wrecked while listening to constant screams of " mummy get out now!!!" Plus I get soaked alot of the time trying to shower him on his own.

I can clearly remember bathing with my mum. Must have stopped when I was 5 or 6? See no issue until the child becomes uncomfortable.

MortifiedAdams · 22/10/2013 17:35

My dd is 2 and regularly bathes with me or dh. She will bathe on her.own too, but sometimes it.is nice to.both get in together.

SpookedMackerel · 22/10/2013 17:38

I always bath with my 2 year old. Apart from at the weekend when she goes in with dh instead, and I get to relax in a bath that is blissfully empty of boats, cups, watering cans, squirters, playmobil...

No not strange at all. It's lovely! I don't do it often but when I do my Dd loves it!

valiumredhead · 22/10/2013 17:48

My ds was still hopping in the bath with either me or his dad at 8.

Lamu · 22/10/2013 17:48

I have a shower with Dd who's 2 every day. I find it easier less hassle than a bath. And she enjoys playing under the shower as I get washed. Then i'll give her a quick once over, wash her hair etc. We also occasionally share baths but I like mine almost scalding hot normally and i obviously can't have it as hot when she's in it.

JoannaBaxterSaysSexIsRude · 22/10/2013 17:50

Mine are 4 and 6 and still get in the bath with me sometimes.

I do discourage it a bit these days as it's a bit of a squeeze Grin

SleepyFish · 22/10/2013 17:52

Still bath with ds (5) sometimes when he asks me too. No, there's nothing wrong with it, other than the water not being hot enough for me!

Haribotangfastic · 22/10/2013 19:42

I regularly bath with DS3 who is 3yrs 5 months. Doesn't bother me apart from having cooler water than I like

Bunbaker · 22/10/2013 19:51

I never took a bath with DD because I liked my water much hotter than she could tolerate. Besides, I just like having a bath on my own. I always waited until she fell asleep then I could relax and take my time.

foreverondiet · 26/10/2013 20:09

I am strange them as my ds1 (age 7) still gets in the bath with me. I know he is getting a bit old.... I think I will continue to allow until he is 8 - at that point he won't be able to come into ladies changing room at swimming pool so that's a good cut off I think.

Lion5711 · 26/10/2013 20:12

I definatly do I don't see the point in running a bath seperatly and it's such a nice time to be together at the end of the day.

Dogwalks · 26/10/2013 20:18

Funny this topic has just made me realise that i no longer bathe with my kids who are now 11 and 13 boy and girl. We shared baths for years as we have a really large bath and it takes ages to fill ( plus it's fun). We have obviously just grown out of it as the kids have got older. My husband and i still walk around naked upstairs sometimes the kids complain and other times they do the same. I think the secret is to just do what's right for you if i thought my kids really got upset at our lack of clothes at the start of the day i would respect that and cover up.

NellysKnickers · 28/10/2013 16:31

I still bath with ds2, 2.10 and did so with ds1 until he was around 5.5. Now they mostly bathe together to save on water, ds1 is 8 now and would prefer a bath completely to himself but he only gets this treat when he is particularly muddy after sport!

KatyN · 29/10/2013 06:19

Fabulous. I have just started. A thing with my son. He's nearly two and loves it. I've never had so many cuddles.

I find I'm sitting in an inch of cold water but defs worth it. I think it's good to be naked with him. I don't want him to think there's anything wrong with him body but there are obv some places where naked isn't acceptable"

When I got in with him the first time, he pointed at my pubes and said 'mummy done a poo poo?' Oh I laughed!

KatyN · 29/10/2013 06:23

A thing? Bathing

Eletheomel · 29/10/2013 08:10

My son is 4 and still bathes with his dad regularly. He had stopped it ages ago, when DS1 was about 10 months old (and was getting a big grabby :-D but we had DS2 5 months ago and we've never used baby baths so DH got in with DS2 and DS1 wanted in aswell. Since then DS1 only wants to have a bath with DH or myself - I don't do the joint bath as often as DH but there is something lovely about being in the bath with my two boys - they're only little once, might as well make the most of it (although agree that the below average bath temp isn't that enjoyable :-D

gintastic · 29/10/2013 08:19

We still have family baths, although the kids are getting a bit big now (5,3 and 1) to get them all in and me... Although they all go in together still :-)

UriGHOULer · 29/10/2013 08:33

Ah it's lovely! Nothing more natural than sharing warm water with your kid. I imagine its so comforting and womb-like.

If I didn't like my bath scalding hot and late at night (with a book and a glass of wine) I'd be sharing with my toddler and his dinosaur collection, 16 plastic cups, the frog and the big tiger Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 29/10/2013 08:34

DH bathed with then 4yo DD1. He only stopped because when dd2 was born the girls shared a bath instead and there wasn't room for him too!

ChipAndSpud · 29/10/2013 08:40

No my baths are hot with lots of bubbles and a good book!

TooBusyByHalf · 29/10/2013 08:51

Don't bath with dd1 (10) anymore -she showers now anyway - but occasionally do with dtd and dts (6) who bath together every night. When do u think b/g twins should stop bathing together?

rrreow · 29/10/2013 13:30

DS1 is 2.5 and has his baths with DH and occasionally showers with me. Nothing strange about that.

TerrariaMum · 29/10/2013 18:43

I bath with nearly 3 yo DD1 and 6 mo DD2.

Urighouler, I'm a scalding hot bath lover too. What I do is get in first and read a bit of my book while DH looks after the girls and then run a bit of cold water in and the girls come in.
