Climbing out of the cot?

babyonboard · 30/06/2006 16:47

DS is just 7 months but lately has learnt to pull to standing in his cot, he's mastered it so he can sit back down/get up without trouble, and ven walk around the cot whilst holding onto the sides.
We've had to move drawers so he can't use them as leverage/ pul things off them..
I am worried he will soon be able to pull himself up and over the cot during the night.
What can we do to stop this, or at least stop him hurting himself if he does?
Thanks.

have u lowered the cot base? If it is lowered he shouldn't be able to get out for a long while yet. my dts are 15 months and still not quite managing it, though they have been crawling and pulling up from 7 monhs.

Is the mattress on its lowest setting? Would be surprised if he could pull himself over the side just yet, it should come quite a way up his chest.

my ds was 12mths when he managed to start pulling over the bars. Used to worry about him landing head first on floor so put him into a bed. However at 7mths on lowest setting would be surprised if your ds could manage to pull out of it.

DS is 17 months and still hasn't managed it (and he is a climbing machine normally). I think having him in a Grobag helps as he can't use his feet properly.

Oh good. Thanks for the reassurance.

the cot is on the lowest level, but he seems to try to 'monkey' himself up by gripping his feet on the sides. I imagine he's too weak and lacks the coordination to manage it though!

my dts do that, but they can't manage it. Quite comical to watch tho! I found that babies don't climb out untilt hey can hook a knee over the top rail.

Lol..glad you said that..
I have great fun watching ds climb around his cot, I sit with a cup of tea on the bed and chat to him..almost like t.v..but interactive
hehee

So the consensus is I shouldn't worry?

I was worrried as he went from rolling, to crawling, then climbing/standing/stepping in such a short time frame I don't want to rest easy and assume he's ok.
But obviously climbing up and out of the cot (he's about the same height as the bars when he's in it) will be a long way off..phew!
