My DD is a good feeder, roughly every 3 hours, but we use shields to BF. Except today she last fed at 11.30am after an hours feed on both boobs. She played for a bit and then wanted sleep. She's been in and out of sleep for nearly 5 hours now and when she stirred, I tried to feed her but she went mental and had to go back to sleep. She slept from 7pm til 2am last night and then up to feed at 6am. She's had loads of sleep. I feel a little concerned that she's gone so long during the day without feeding, but whenever i try when she'd tired she has a crying fit. Is this normal, is it a growth spurt, should I be worried? What should I do?

Could be a growth spurt. Has she has wet/dirty nappies? If so I wouldn't be too worried. Would check her temperature though. If her temp is over 38 or she goes floppy straight to a&e. My ds at that age had some days where he barely slept and others where he slept most of the day. I guess being a baby can be pretty exhausting!

My dd2 went 11 hours one day when she was about the same age, I was so worried I phoned the HV and she said not to worry if she was well (no fever etc) but just keep trying. She eventually fed, and it never happened again, it was weird.

I bf using shields for almost a year- don't see why they'd be relevant or causing a problem. Just check temp, keep an eye on nappies and keep offering boob. If concerned about dehydration (there are signs to look for- lethargic, sunken skin, dry nappies) call a doctor or go to a & e otherwise just keep an eye out.
