Dear all,

I work full time and we are moving this weekend into a bigger place (an extra bedroom for DS). He is 7 months old today and I just wanted to ask for any tips or things to look out for to moving into his own room?

I am definitely nervous. At the moment he Iain a cot next to my bed...

Anyway, hope to hear from you x

Place a top of yours in the cot with him. So that he can smell you which should be a comfort to him. Make sure it isn't a top with fiddlely straps to be caught which.

A nightlight so he isn't in complete darkness.

Go to him straight away if you hear him. He may only need to feel your hand resting on his chest

I moved my DD 3 months ago. I think I was more effected then she was. The things aboved helped allot

Familiar toys, familiar bedding - grobag if that's what you use. You might want to consider sleeping by his cot on the floor for the first night, or having him in with you initially and then moving him into the new room. With ds1 we moved house and put him straight into his new room on his own when he was 8mo. He woke at 1m screaming the place down and ended up making himself sick - it was a bit of a disaster, I was holding him, dh bent down to wipe some vomit off my feet as I was freaking out somewhat, and ds1 spewed on dh's head. Not the ideal first night in our new home! I think the combination of the move and new house plus new room on his own was too much for ds1. In hindsight I would have stayed with him in his new room for the first night, or had him in with us initially. We're moving dd2 (11mo) into her own room soon, and I am going to sleep on her floor on a mattress for the first night. Or maybe creep back to my own bed in the middle of the night if it's going well! All the best for your move.

I knew someone who actually got in the cot with her baby until she feel asleep. She was a midget though
