Film night....ideas for 5 year old AND parents to enjoy

We've just started a Friday night film night, with 5 year old DS. Trying to avoid all the usual Pixar type films (love them, but have watched to death and can only cry at UP so many times)!

So far Star Wars has been a BIG hit.

What are your classic films from yesteryear (and not so yesteryear) that we might all enjoy...?

Would Indiana Jones be an idea or too scary?

Spiderwick Chronicles was a big hit with us - but a little scary in places.
Indiana Jones

The studio Ghiblli films are good - animated but lots for adults to get from too.

Some are Howl's Floating Castle, Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service.

My niece and nephew (8 and 6) enjoy Ghostbusters too. What about Big, Turner and Hooch?

DS is 4 and will usually only sit through animated films at the moment but he did like Nanny McPhee.

And Mary Poppins come to think of it.

Maybe he's trying to tell us something...

Shrek is a big hit in our house (but yes Pixar, I know)
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Blue Planet dvd

I was going to say Rise of the Guardians. DS, 6 yo, likes the Tintin movies (old and new).

How about the old Disney movies - Dumbo etc?
Wallace and Gromit?
Fantastic Mr Fox?

Roald Dahl films
Back to the future has a lot of bad language in it (for a 5 yr old anyway)
Babe
The Grinch
The Jungle Book
Madeline

Jumanjii.

Our sons both loved Ella Enchanted, and Mirror Mirror, both which are perhaps for a more "girly audience".

QuintessentialShadows · 27/09/2013 14:44

George of the jungle.

Mine loved the Ice Age movies (Pixar I know!)
Princess Bride and Home Alone are on our list to watch with them.

SheldorAFK · 28/09/2013 22:25

Wizard of Oz or Grease

Just saw that Jungle Book has finally been re-released. I love love love this film - when my DCs were little (5 is the perfect age) we would watch it endlessly - they would march around the room to the elephant's song.

It was one of the few films I didn't mind watching endlessly with them - happy days.
