Nappies to cope with exploding poo!

My ds (14 weeks, ~14 1/2 lbs) has recently started doing 3 or 4 big poo's every 24 hours.

We are struggling to find a nappy that copes - he is in no3 tesco and huggies at the moment. It either leaks up the back or comes down his leg (even with all the flaps out). So far all the leaks have happened at home but the last one was so spectacular (down the leg and a puddle on me and the bed) it is only a matter of time...

Has anyone else had this problem - please tell me it is just a stage! I'm thinking about going up to no 4's but they would cover half his body!

I've not taken the plunge with washables yet - I'm planning on buying no2 tots bots when he is a bit bigger..

Buying a bigger nappy wont help, they need to be in the correct size, also avoid the strechy flexible ones, the standard ones should work better for this situation.

I was going to suggest cloth and tots , or wambamboo at CasTextiles are great - I'm trialling a birth to potty one at the moment on my 17 week old, and it is really good... he's been refusing to poo in it though, so I don't have any hands on containment experience, but they are so similar to tots, I can't see there being an issue.

Oh, I was suggesting cloth because all disposables seem to leak on mine.
