Boys - how to stop them pissing everywhere!

My ds is almost 5 and the vast majority of the time is a little treasure. He's been out of nappies in the day for 2 years and is toileting independently apart from a bum wipe now and then. My problem is that over the last 4 months or so he's learned to wee standing up and that would be great if it were not for the fact that his aim is crap, he's pissing all over the place and my bathrooms stink! Is there a knack to it? I've tried encouraging him to sit, he won't. We've got steps, I've tried talking to him, I've tried telling him off, I've tried shouting 'watch where you're weeing' at the top of my lungs whenever he goes to the loo.

I've just cleaned piss off the wall higher than he is tall.

Ugh.

Help!

I'd insist on sitting.

What about the toilet balls that they can aim at? I had some for DS1 when he decided to stand to wee and he loved aiming at them and making them spin. Grin

Tell me when you work it out and I can retrain dh and dsHmm.

I've tried getting him to sit but it's so much more fun standing up and I cannot accompany him to the toilet every time he goes to make him sit.. Tbh if I tried that he'd go when I was otherwise preoccupied anyway!

A ball sounds like a good idea. Would a ping ping ball work?

Ping pong balls work too. You could draw a face on it too, weeing on that may be enough of a draw to aim properly.

CatAmongThePigeons · 22/09/2013 12:53

Oops, overkill with 'too'. Blush

Methe · 22/09/2013 13:30

Right, I will try that! Thank you :)

Or you can get target stickers for inside the bowl like this

Methe · 22/09/2013 17:30

Stickers ordered! I'll get some ping pong balls tomorrow. Thanks all :D

I could have written this post add my DS is exactly the same.

yesterday he actually shouted "look mummy I can wee through the hole (more commonly known as the raised toilet seat). And today there was a huge puddle on the floor as he was experimenting (tmi warning) with squeezing and spraying simultaneously.

someone please tell me they grow out of it.

Think I may be ordering stickers too.

My DS is too young for this yet (thank god) but my friend told me that a Cheerio dropped in the bowl works very well for target practice, and has the advantage of flushing away each time (therefore not being an attraction for younger siblings to fish out!). Yuck!

FlapJackFlossie · 23/09/2013 16:30

I'd go with a ping pong ball/toilet balls. They just love aiming at them (and not the walls).

Or make him wipe it up when you find spillages. He might be more careful then! Works for my lot (all 5 of them, big and small).
