Does anyone else's baby seem to prefer ready made formula to the powdered stuff you make up yourself?

Just that really Smile
My 15 week old has been off her milk for a few weeks now and I've been struggling to get her to feed, however over the past couple of days due to being out and about I've given her some of the ready made formula in a carton (aptamil first) and the has drained the lot!
I don't know if it's just coincidence because she has been really hungry or if she actually prefer's the ready made stuff
Any one else experienced this?

Yes! DD is mixed fed but generally has one bottle a day. She definitely takes the pre-'made stuff better.

Not my little one, but friends daughter refused powdered after a week away that they took pre made for!

I've had it happen both ways - dd2 preferred the cartons, and then in time completely refused the cartons and would only take the powder!

I reckon coincidence, hungry days and growth spurt.

DS2 is BF but gets one bottle at night or if we're in a place where it isn't so easy to feed. He doesn't like the powdered stuff and likes the ready made far better.

They do taste different but might it be she prefers it at room temp? Also with aptimil powder you have to be careful not to use just boiled water or the mixture will have bits in.

Haggisfish · 22/09/2013 21:23

Yes, totally - mixed fed from 6mo and would not even entertain powdered version!

Picklesauage · 23/09/2013 11:12

Yes, the premade version tastes sweeter and it is slightly easier to digest. When my friend DS had to switch to FF (worst BF story I have EVER heard, whole other thread though!) she was told to try and do one premade feed a day as it helped stave off constipation. It has more sugars in it, kinda like lactolose.

It really did stop constipation though!

Quick update, she is doing much better now, with the powder! Don't think I'll be getting the ready made again!
Pickled sausage I want to hear the BF story now Smile

And thank you everyone for your replies Smile

when I was mix feeding I used the ready made and my lo had it without any issue. but when we went to completely on formula we went to powder and I noticed he was grisly and seemed more windy. through the night I had neen using a carton of ready made to save going downstairs. I noticed he was less grisly through the night than he was in the day. I wondered if the difference was because the powdered was more frothy as you tend to shake it more to make sure the powder is dissolved. I have now started to stir the powder so it is less frothy and so far he has been less grisly (although we've only done it for the lass too feeds). so hopefully this may have sorted it Smile
