What's the best way to get rid of wee smell??

My 5 year old is dry most nights and has been for the last 6 months but has wet the bed in the last 2 nights on the run which I'm putting down to possible nerves of being back at school. Anyway I have tried cleaning the mattress with disinfectant and hot water and it still stinks. You can still smell wee as soon as you walk in his room. Any tips of how to get rid of smell??

A good sprinkling of bicarb of soda on the mattress, leave for 8 hours then vacuum up.

Honestly, I'd buy a new mattress, and then use something like this JL waterproof mattress protector. They're great, you wouldn't know they were waterproof, no rustling or sweating.

I've got the john Lewis mattress protector on DDs bed, you would never know it was there and it's brilliant.

Depends really how heavy the 6 yr old is, but presuming you want it to last through teenage yrs ir may be worth shelling out a bit. The John Lewis value pocket mattress is excellent if you can stretch to it at £199.

Miltons sterilizing tablets.Diluted. And left for a while. Then mopped up with towels. Then turn the mattress over if you need to use it and it's still wet. And or bicarb as oddboots says.Shouldn't matter if it is dried in.

Could there be wee somewhere else in the room. From damp sheets touching the carpet or some such?
