Daft question about nipple cream

Soon to be mum - I haven't bought any nipple cream yet but I'm wondering...is it safe for babies to ingest this when they breast feed?? Do you wipe it off before doing so? I don't think I want my baby sucking on this even if it says its safe...

You may not even need it. I used a teeny bit once and now use it for dry skin on my feet.
But if you do, I'd just wipe it off before you start a feed.
Perfectly safe for the baby though!

Best of luck.

Lansinoh is the only one I know of that you don't have to wipe off before feeding. It's basically just lanolin, so nothing nasty. It's about £10 a tube so you might want to wait and see if you actually need it before going ahead and getting it. I did use it with my DS, so went and bought some when I was pg with DD, but never used it.

I found expressing a bit of milk and rubbing over my nipple, then leaving to air dry, was often as good as using nipple cream if sore

Lansinoh was a godsend with DC1 and was £10 very well spent. You don't wash/ wipe it off before feeding, it's safe for baby.

Yes. Lansinoh was a lifesaver for me when I got a blister. If you smear it on before a feed it enables you to carry feeding on until the nipple heals.

It is expensive but lots of midwives have samples and a little goes a long way. GPs can give you a prescription too.

DH used the rest on his cracked heals.

Some need to be wiped off, others not. I bought lansinoh 1st time but hardly used it. This time I bought Wilkinsons own which was v cheap & didn't need wiping off either. I've used it a bit & it doubles up as a lip balm!

Agree with whoever said you might not need it. Have bf 2 and never bought a tube. Good to know where you can get it if you ever do need it though Smile

If you are thinking of bfing, stick the Bfing Helpline numbers in your phone, find out where your bfing support groups are and go to them, you don't have to wait till Lo arrives and have a read of to bf on kellymom. In fact, add kellymom to your favourites too Smile

HTH Thanks

Lansinoh is amazing, I got through tons of the stuff, ( wish I'd know I could have asked for it on prescription would have saved me a fortune)
