We've just moved from the country to the city. DH and I are delighted with our new city life, unfortunately poor DS1 (7) is struggling a bit with the new school. It's only the beginning of week 3 but he's just come down from his bed crying about missing his old school. It's a massive change. Last year he was at a small country school in a p1/2 class and now he's at a very big and very diverse city school in a p3/4 class. There have been a few issues with him getting lost in the new school. I have been a little disappointed with how they've handled things. They didn't even assign anyone in the class to help him find his way around in the first couple of days. They did later say they were going to assign him a p7 'buddy', but this doesn't seem to have been done, although DS did say he didn't want one. He's not totally miserable, he usually comes home reasonably happy and has talked enthusiastically about some of the things they've done, but I'm feeling guilty about taking him away from everything he knew. Does anyone have experience of this and any tips on how we can help him settle in?
