peas my daughter was not good enough at it - writing out the anthem was 50% of their music grade for the quarter. dd failed and was given the op to retake the test and make up - dh and I told her we couldn't care less and she didn't have to do it if she didn't want to. Sad that she knows the star spangled banner but not god save the queen.( not that i'm a royalist)

harrisey · 20/06/2006 00:29

JanH · 20/06/2006 10:57

God Save the Queen is a crap anthem for singing, it has to be said, esp compared with Flower of Scotland and the Welsh one (forget what it's called!)

zippitippitoes · 20/06/2006 11:03

Deutschland Deutschland Uber Alles is the same tune as some hymn though, isn't it, Cfrau?

I've been sitting here humming it and Guide us oh thou great redeemer for the last 10 mins and getting nowhere!

popsycal · 20/06/2006 20:21

the german nationaly anthem was the tune of hymn number 19 at school.......

JanH · 20/06/2006 20:25

Got it - I think - Glorious things of thee are spoken Zion city of our god?

popsycal · 20/06/2006 20:27

popsycal · 20/06/2006 20:28

JanH · 20/06/2006 20:31

He whose word shall not be broken formed thee for his own abode

Then I keep singing bread of heaven for the next bit and I know that's wrong!

JanH · 20/06/2006 20:33

Oh no - wait -

on the ro-ock of ages fo-ounded
None shall break thy sure repose

....

bugger - lost the next bit!

I will find the words in a sec Smile

JanH · 20/06/2006 20:36

Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Sion, city of our God!
He whose word cannot be broken
Formed thee for his own abode:
On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
Thou may'st smile at all thy foes.

JoolsToo · 20/06/2006 20:37

blimey I've just sung that all the way through!

reminded of assembly

JanH · 20/06/2006 20:39

I have about 200 hymns in my head, JT - sit me in front of Somgs of Praise and I can sing along without the words Grin - that's what about 1400 school assemblies does for you!
