Experiences with helmets for plagiocephaly.

My son just turned 6 months old and he is due to be fitted for a helmet next week to help with his plagiocephaly. He also has torticollis for which he has been in OT for since 2 months of age.

I'm wondering if anybody has any experience of helmets, good or bad. Is there anything I should know in advance? How will I get his little onsies on him etc?

Very glad if anyone has any info or similar experiences...

I don't have any experience, sorry. I'm sure another lovely MNer will be along shortly who can. Re: onesies - if you use the ones with envelope necks, put his feet into the neck and pull it on that way. Like taking it off, but in reverse?

Oh, why didn't I think of that Moose? I always take the onsies off over his head becasue it forms part of his exercises he does. Of course.

I was always so headstrong in getting the treatment he needed. Now its coming up and I'm crumbling a bit and freaking out.

One of my friends's twins had torticollis and plagiocephaly. He had his helmet at 4 months-ish I think and had to wear it for 23 hours a day and the results were amazing. She was worried if she was doing the rightr thing or not but now really glad she did.

Sorry, 23 hours a day for 8 weeks. It didn't bother him at all!

Our niece had a helmet at a similar age. No real advice but it helped hugely and in a short time too. My sil found she had to wash/dry hair every day. our niece was actually upset when it was time for it to be removed and slept fine with it on.
