Help. Tommee tippee ear thermometer giving different readings??

My daughter (21months) has had a high temp this morning and not herself at all, but when I'm using the tommee tippee ear thermometer it's just been telling me 38.3 in one ear and 37.8 in the other ear?? It was 39 earlier so I gave her some calpol but that was nearly 2 hours ago.

Does anyone else have this thermometer? If so have you had any problems with it? Or am I doing it wrong?
Thanks

It's v normal to get 2 different readings. They work by reading the temp of the tympanic membrane deep within the ear. You need a nice snug fit in the ear in exactly the right direction with no wax in the way for a true reading. A lower reading will be a result of these inaccuracies so always use the higher reading. Nothing can cause a false high.

Don't worry about the thermometer. If she feels hot and is obviously uncomfortable or unhappy, then give her calpol. If she feels hot but is not unhappily then don't. If she doesn't feel hot, but is uncomfortable or in pain, then give her calpol.

Hope she feels better soon. Make sure she is wearing as little as possible and keep offering her drinks. Don't worry if she doesn't want to eat. And look after yourself- rest as much as you can. You might have a disturbed night!
