My 7.5 month old has been crawling for about a week.
Pulls himself up on furniture.
Thing is he keeps banging himself falling. It's when I am sat with him on the floor or wherever.
I know it's normal to some extent but how much is normal as he looks like a battered child and I'm feeling really upset by it.
Just need reassuring that all of your babies did this too & I'm not a bad mother because I feel like one.

Completely normal. Show me a mobile baby/toddler without bruises and I'd be very worried about them!

Just cover the sharp edges/corners and hope for the best. Bruises fade very quickly at that age but I know how horrid it makes you feel. He's learning all the time, he'll be running around and jumping of the furniture before you know it and then the bruises will just get bigger!

Just to reassure you, I worried about this too about a month ago for the same reasons, but you'd be surprised how quickly they get more stable and used to falling over. Soon he'll learn to fall over better so he doesn't hurt himself, and will be falling over less anyway. When my son is dong something that looks like it'll end in tears I sit behind him ready to catch him, that way he gains confidence by exploring and I know no serious damage will be sustained. Obviously I don't do that all the time, just on the occasion he is being a complete daredevil!

Yep, constant bumps and bruises, no matter how much I tried to watch/catch him. He'll be fine!! My friends DS had an amazing black eye after a fall!!

Ds is now one and almost walking, crawls very fast and takes the odd step, and walks along all furniture and climbs everything. He still takes the odd tumble and bangs his head while exploring but is really very controlled and nothing like the amount he did when he was at the stage it sounds like your lo is at. I remember when he was starting and worrying exactly like you are, especially when he would stand in his cot and fall and bash himself... But that is how they learn and if they don't get the chance to they can't get better. That stage passed pretty fast, don't worry :-)

DS is 18mo and has been walking for 7 months he's still always covered in bruises

Yes totally normal, I remember that phase well with ds1 and am just beginning it again with dd2! It's very hard as you can't babyproof everything and bumps and bruises are inevitable. Hopefully it won't last too long for you - ds1 was very quick to become steady on his feet and we only really had a particularly wobbly and accident-prone couple of weeks.

Phew it's all ok then. Thanks everyone x
