is it rong to give my child spaggetti and cheese for dinner??

my partner came home from work yesterday he was greeted with smiles and chocolates :)
when he sow i had given the children spagetti and cheese for dinner he gave me a dirty look and in a shoked voice say, thats not good enough!?! he then made a new dinner and left me feeling like a bad mum.i wouldn't have minded if he had just given his opinon nicely as he is the daddy, but to be an arse about something so small i feel is just mean.
he dosnt think he should say sorry for up setting me as he is right. oh and i must add i do feed my children a varied diet with all the goodness they need.

Every once in a while as a treat we have pasta with butter and cheese for tea as it does taste nice but it really isn't very nutritious. Do your children get their 5+ a day? I think your DP was wrong in the way he expressed his opinion but he should get a say in what the DCs eat. He just needs to be a bit more diplomatic about it.

ds loves spaghetti with grated cheese and slices of ham. He doesn't like sauces on his pasta so has the spaghetti when the rest of us have bolognese, macaroni cheese, etc. Sounds fine to me and he sounds like a knob

It is wrong for your dp to bahave like that. They are not going to develop rickets from one meal.

it was only the second time my youngest has had this as a meal his whole life! my children have fruit and healthy treats everyday. my 1 year old was sufforing with his teeth so needed alot of attention, the older 2 asked for it for there dinner so instead of doing seporate meals i gave our youngest the same. it was the youngest having it he felt was rong of me.
i don't mind his in put and i raised my others vegetarian untill they where old enough to choose but this one gets meat. xx

It depends; was it just that one meal or does your DP have a problem with the child's diet in general?

It's not a particularly balanced dinner, but as a one off I see nothing wrong with it.

He could've been nicer about it, but saying "it's not good enough" is hardly mean.

In that case, he is overreacting.

If we have had a busy week or dd's are particularly tired then ill dish up spaghetti on toast or beans on toast. Sometimes just crackers and an apple. They eat well usually, eat their body weight in fruit. What you served up would be something I'd do (if they ate cheese). Sometimes they just aren't in the mood to eat a full blown meal and just want something extremely simple. Don't see the problem as a one off every now and then.

What did he make them?
If my dh gave that for dinner and I came in half way through, I might moan a bit about the lack if veg and quickly chop up a bit of pepper/cucumber but he totally overreacted.

My kids' favourite meal is pasta with a mix of egg and cheese. I throw in some peas and some fruit after but I don't see anything wrong in it. Carbs, protein and dairy ... Plus they love it!

Does your husband usually chastise you like a child?

I can't see a problem if they're eating balanced, nutritious food for the majority of the time.
Dh is Italian and one of his favourite no fuss comfort foods is spaghetti bianco - spaghetti with butter, salt and some grated Parmesan.

Your dh could do with being more supportive and not over react to something so unimportant. One meal will not make them ill.

I don't think you did anything wrong. My DS loves a bowl of spaghetti and cheese. I do try and make sure he has a plate of carrot sticks/cucumber slices/apple wedges either before or after it too, to add some of his five-a-day.

He heated a tin of tuna pasta salad and have it to the youngest, the older ones wouldn't fat anything like that so they kept there dinner. I was planning fruit with yogurt for after
5 months ago he took champax to stop smoking and he has been very abrupt and snappy with everyone. I don't what he did its just that he felt a need to make me feel bad and when i pointed that out he just lectured me on nutrition. Xx

Leave your dp home in charge for a couple of weeks and just watch what happens :o

Seriously I religiously spent hours preparing and cooking and batch cooking healthy meals for dd1. Fruit and veg with everything. I forgot one major thing. The mood and state of my dd. when they are tired, under the weather or teething like your baby was, they are not going to be responsive to a wild mushroom risotto with stir fried Chinese veg or some other fancy meal. Sometimes they really do just want beans on toast. Tell your dp that if he wants to he can cook what he deems suitable but that there will be times it goes in the bin.

And sometimes the time is better spent with extra cuddles on the sofa. There's always tomorrow

dd (14) has that with tomato ketchup. so do some of her friends. one has tk sandwiches.
they eat other things at other times

Like pp have said its not the most nutritious dinner in the world but its hardly the end of the world, much better to comfort a teething baby and have a healthier day tomorrow.
