At what age could your child ride a scooter?

My ds 2.6 keeps saying he wants a scooter but every time I mention it to people they say he is too young and will not be able to do it.

At what age did your child master a scooter?

If it's one with two wheels at the front he'll be fine.

Ds2 was bought a chunky waybaloo scooter for his second birthday (3 wheeled one) and was already scooting prior to this.

Ours was one wheel at front, two at back. Neither of mine have managed the ones with two wheels at front.

You can buy one which converts from four wheels to three wheels to two wheels.

He will be fine with a mini micros scooter, my DD has been riding one since 18mths.

She is 2.8 and a whizz on it!

He will probably be fine with a mini micro scooter. Yes, they are expensive but he'll probably master it fairly quickly.

Def mini micro. The cheaper versions don't compare. DD1 had one for her third birthday and DD2 is just about to get one for her third birthday.

We were at sports day last June, and DD2 "borrowed" stole a scooter that was with a group of parents and proceeded to scot around the playing field. She was 20 months.

We gave DD one of the 2 wheels at the front types (tilt and turn) for her 3rd Bday. She's only fallen off it once and that was because she'd only just started using it and decided to try to go flying down a slope. Go flying, she did! It doesn't tip over sideways like a 2 wheeler, but it's not very easy to turn either.

Does the t bar adjust for thier height on theses scooters and do you make them wear a helmet ?

The mini micros don't adjust for height, but my (very tall) DS has been fine on his from his 2nd birthday to his third and I reckon will be ok on it til his 4th.

Some people say go stright to the micro if your child is already 3ish and tall as these do adjust. They are heavier though and the mini is so easy to carry around when they abandon it as it is so light. I recommend getting the scoot and pull rope as it converts into a handle.

I disagree with MrsMango that they are hard to turn- it seems to be incredibly maneuverable (sp), DS is in and out of everything on his.

Quick update, got him a scooter today and he could do it straight away. He has spent all afternoon scooting up and down the garden.

Inclusionist, I was talking about the tilt and turn, not a mini micro. On the tilt and turn, the handle bar doesn't move, you have to lean to the side to get it to veer that way.

That is how the mini micros steer too MrsMango but maybe the micro is more sensitive than the tilt and turn?
