DD was 3 last week, got shed loads of bags, she seemed happy but haven't a clue what she will do with them all. She also loved going into Clare's accessories to spend a voucher she got, she is so girly not like me at all as all my mates keep reminding me!

a book, something crafty, a bubble machine (great hand held battery one in ELC for a fiver), a t-shirt

Trying to remember back four years ago when dd was 3!

A little art set in its own case; they aren't expensive and will suit the less girly girls.
Or if you know she is girly, what about one of those wooden dolls that come with different outfits to dress it up in.
The Claire's accessories idea is also good.
Finally, what about a pretty little bag for carrying her "treasures" around in - maybe also buy something small to put in it too, like a finger puppet or something.

bubble machine is a great idea

Hi have a 2.6 DD and she loves bubble machines, girly bags, treasure boxes and those twirly wind decorations for the garden. Dressing up clothes also go down a treat too.

Fuzzy Felts are great. My little sis would sit
for hours and play with them.

Fairy wings and a wand. And some pretend high heels. You can get sets - Disney, Tesco. OR a musical instrument from ELC. OR some nice books - Tiger Who Came To Tea, We're All Going On A Bear Hunt - that she can read with whoever puts her to bed OR some outdoor toys, loads about at the moment.

Nice colouring book and decent pencils is usually my standby for unknown children.

There are some great ideas here...

The hand held bubble machine is fab. My DD 2.8 loves her. Also go with the dressing up stuff (but avoid the usual, might well have that already), dolls more along the lines of Barbie, rather than the happy land stuff they did have before 3 - mine is starting to want to get into that sort of stuff. Other imaginary toys too.

ELC have snap 'n style dolls. My 3 year loves them-it's her favourite thing at the moment. Highly recommended for 2-4 year olds.
