Baby safety - what to buy ??

Hi all,

My 10 mo son refuses to crawl but is sliding along on his tummy at breathtaking speeds Wink
He spends most of his waking hours in the lounge surounded by his toys - but he's more interested in the TV, the DVD rack and loves to plant himself under chairs.

Ideally I would like to block off the corner that has the TV and the DVD shelf. Can anyone recommend what I should buy?
Also, do I need to close off the plug points? I don't think I need to secure any cupboards just yet as he stays in the lounge...

Thanks in advance :)

You could try something like the BabyDan Configure gate or the BabyDen/HearthGate to cordon off a non-standard space.

Apparently modern sockets don't need the socket guard things - I don't use them, and remove/distract my ds if he goes near the sockets. He now mostly doesn't bother with them.

I started a baby proofing mission today! I have an accident prone 15 month old. He has tripped today over his own 2 feet and landed flat on his face busting his noseShock.

I already have a gate at top of stairs but have one at bottom now as he is like lightening up the stairs. I've done the sockets too as he loves a plug. Got window locks to put on. The type that allows you to open windows a little. Need cupboard locks and blind cord locks too. Think I'll get some corner guards too for fire place.

I have a 6 year old and never bothered with any of this for him apart from the gate at top of stairs. It just didnt seem necessary for him. He never bothered with things he shouldn't touch but ds2 is the complete opposite. Trouble just seems to find him Shock

We put our coffee table in front of the tv, it stops DS getting to it!

Clevamama (I hate the name of the company!) sell cushioned strips for the hearth, very useful.

why not to use socket covers

mmmmsleep · 10/08/2013 18:13

I like the magnet cupboard locks sold at boots. won't trap little fingers. don't bother with sockets as said below.

good luck! my ds is always one step ahead of me. Just discovered how to climb on chair to get to knife block Shock needless to say knives now in locked drawer!

Unfortunately the baby dan does need to be screwed in, so I guess that could be tricky in a rented place.
