Is a dummy the answer

I have never been a fan of dummy's but dd is really hard to settle at night (she is fab in yhe day). She is ebf and I feed her and put her down sleepy (she doesn't really fall asleep on the breast). Immediately she starts fidgeting and trying to suck her hands, I have assumed she wanted more boob but she usually refuses and the fussing continues. I have tried rocking, shushing etc but this seems to wake her up more. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

My dd was (and still is) a 'sucky' baby so we relented and gave her the dummy (only for sleep time). Like you we found that rocking or cuddling just agitated her more. There are pros and cons:
Pros:
It can help your dd self settle
Compared to rocking/cuddling/feeding to sleep it can be easier/quicker to have to pop a dummy in a few times a night

Cons:
You'll have to tackle breaking the habit sooner or later (but that's no different to rocking/cuddling/feeding to sleep)
Until your dd learns to find and replace the dummy herself you might find yourself getting up frequently during the night to replace the dummy
They can be bad for teeth if used later on (though there are orthodontic dummies now)

The ideal would be that your dd falls (and stays) asleep by herself, without needing any association but I guess if she was doing that you wouldn't have posted!

Thanks Millions, I'm finding it such a tricky decision but it took over 2 hours last night to settle her only for her to wake 40 mins later. What I don't understand is how she finds it so easy during the day??

Mine is the opposite, will sleep at night but not during the day!

Tried a dummy as she was getting frustrated with her hands but she just spat it out.
