Why needing a blankie (whatever that is??) - just get rid of the dummy?

A blankie is a blanket or a small piece of fabric. DS1 used to have a stuffed elephant he took everywhere.

My kids have never had dummies only used teethers to settle when desperate so no good advice. Maybe go cold turkey with the dummy (only way in my opinion) and use the same blankie when you're settling her. Maybe someone will come along and offer better advice than me! X

I have a friend who similarly wanted to wean her child off the dummy but didn't want to leave her DS without a comforter. She bought a small blanket which attached to the dummy with velcro and once her son had gotten used to the blanket she took the dummies away. Not really sure how long she went between using the dummy with the blanket attached and removing the dummy and I don't think it made the loss of the dummy any easier but he did then use the blanket as his comforter. Think he was around a year old at the time.

She had a taggy blanket for her DS but it was similar to this: sleepytot

Thanks girls I did actualy think of sewing some dummies to a blanket then removing them over a period of time. I want the switch because a blankie is easier to find in the night. Easier to keep track off in the day. Couldn't imagine not having any kind of comforter !

None of mine had any kind of comforter - they all had toys which became favourites but no kind of "blankie".
