How much milk for a 10 mo ??

Hi all,

DS is almost 10 mo and has a breast feed morning and evening - although the evening one isn't a lot as it's just 30 mins after his dinner.
I started giving him formula during the day as I'm due back at work in a few days. He can easily drink 4-5 oz as part of his mid morning and mid afternoon snack.
But recently the HV suggested that I should cut out the mid afternoon formula feed and just give him some solid snack and instead offer some formula after the evening breastfeed - so that he sleeps better...he gets up at least 2-3 times during the night and on most nights need a feed...

But since I've cut out the mid afternoon formula feed he seems very irritable by evening and very hungry by dinner time...

Can someone please tell me how much their 10 mo usually drinks during the day...

Thanks in advance :)

P.S. His snacks are not just formula feeds... they are accompanied by cheese or fruit pieces or rice biscuit...

20oz is recommended up to 1 year.

Could you give him his dinner earlier so that he takes a longer feed before bed (or formula)?

DD is 10 months. She takes three 7 ounce bottles in a day. 7am, 2pm and 6.30pm. My HV told me she needs 21 ounces until she turns one.

Only breast feeds so I couldn't tell you how much, but we do first and last thing, and mid morning and afternoon. I don't give a snack because I want dd to take more milk at these times. Think your hv is talking rubbish. Weaning is about balance, not stuffing solids into them. If your dc is taking good amounts at each meal u would keep offering the milk as you are.

Thanks all :)

Jinty64 he has dinner at 5pm... Don't.think I could do any earlier or it would be too close to his afternoon snack...

I've tried something different today and gave him a bottle at 11 pm... Hoping that he sleeps better...

I think it's 17-20oz up to 12 months - any less than 17oz and you need to supplement with vitamins as they won't be getting enough from diet alone.

I'd keep up the milk in the day.

At that age night wakings are more likely to be a sleep issue than a food issue imo.

Ahh, it was when you said his evening feed was 30 mins after his dinner I expected his dinner to be later.

Mine had dinner at 5pm and their last feed about 7.30pm.
