Just canvassing opinion, is this a good idea?

I'd really appreciate all you guys opinions on this thought that's been knocking around in my head.

I've recently decided to give up work and now need a project that's going to bring in a few pennies.

I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine and was thinking of starting a rental service for newborn and tiny baby sized reusable nappies - made by myself.

When my daughter was born we used reusable nappies, but I found the ones I had that were supposed to be from birth (and I had a few different types) completely swamped her until she was about 6 weeks old, and when she first went into them they were hugely bulky on her. At 8lb 6oz she wasn't a particularly small baby either. I ended up buying eco-disposables for that time, not cheap at £5-£6 a pack

So I would be interested to know if there would be a market for me to make and rent a package of comfy, very small nappies, charging a similar amount to the cost of disposables...possibly even offering a laundry service as well (I haven't done any maths yet, like I said, its only in my head so far!)

I can't imaging anyone wanting to buy them for such a short time but if there are parents out there minded to use washables but find they are having to buy disposables to start with, maybe they would be interested???

What do you think?

Hi there. We had newborn size and next size cloth nappies but didn't start using any cloth until week six. Personally I felt I had enough on my plate with brand new baby. It just seemed like one hurdle too many at the time. Which on retrospect is a bit lame. Been using cloth happily since. The 'no time for dinner' first few weeks are so busy that I'd err on side of offering laundry service too with your new business. Good luck with it!

If another baby came along I would probably be interested, particularly if someone else was doing the laundry! From memory though we got through a lot of nappies so would need to be quite a big kit!
