Hi,

Im a ftm and just wanted to check that i am feeding my lo enough. He is 7 and half months and on 3 meals a day. He is still bf on demand which equates to about 5 feeds a day plus 2/3 in the night. Is this too much now and should i look at dropping a feed or wait for him to?

He has started feeding to sleep lately which is becoming a problem as dh cant do bedtime or through the night care and im goin away for 2 nights in sept.

Normal routine is approx:

7am breakfast of porridge and toast
9am bf
11.30/12 lunch of veg/ fruit and sometimes sandwich/crackers and cheese
1pm bf sometimes
2.30/3 bf
5pm dinner whatever we have
6.30 bath
7pm bedtime bf
10/11pm bf
1/1.30am bf
4/5am bf

Any info would be great even if just to let me know if its the same as yours??

Thanks peeps!

DD is 9 months and sounds about the same. I feed on demand too..the last time I got her weighed the hv was harping on about cutting milk feeds and night feeds but as I feed on demand I will wait for her cues. slightly easier for me to be laid back about it as I have no reason to be away from her and also have an older DC that I spent far too much time worrying about. babies know what they need.

I've found this page useful as a guide, especially the chart.

as for feeding to sleep I've no tips really as it only worked for me when I night-weaned DS when he was over a year and only works for DD when she's in the right mood. I've heard people have success with the 'pantly pull-off' although it didn't work for me (I'm probably too soft) - personally I think 8 months is too early to wean at night (especially if you have a distractable baby during the day who needs to make up for it at night) but I found this worked brilliantly for DS at 15 months Smile

Thanks for replying. Nice to have that bit of reassuramce that im doing things ok. Yes i too think its too early for night weaning as i have established that he definitely still needs 2 feeds a night.
I have ordered the book with the pantley pull off method in so will give that a read and see where to go from there.

Thanks again!
