Anyone else with a toddler and a newborn?

DS (weird saying that!) is 3 days old and DD is 23 months.

DS and I got home from the hospital yesterday and it's been okay so far. DP is on paternity leave which obviously makes a huge difference. DD has reacted really well. She mainly just ignores the baby and doesn't seem jealious at all. She even slept through the night for the first time in ages last night!

Anyone else?

I was there nine months ago, with the same age gap. Good luck! I had a lot of help from my parents for the first six weeks, and dh was great at taking DD off for muddy adventures while I sat on sofa boobing. DD has been great, actually, not jealous as I expected and now quite fascinated by DS's new talents (crawling, standing, saying gagaga etc). She is sometimes spontaneously affectionate too!

BUT in the early weeks I found it hard to go from one to the other and to adjust to their different needs. And I sort of felt like I hated each of them a little bit for taking me away from the other one. That sounds strange but it is still frustrating trying to have enough time for each. Poor old DS did a lot more crying in the early weeks than DD ever did, especially at bedtime.

Hope some others in the same situation and at the same stage will be along soon to chat. Enjoy your new baby cuddles and hope your toddler adjusts well!

I think there's a whole thread dedicated to this topic. Something about being Mary poppins. I can't do a link sorry but join in the fun Grin
