Hes driving me looney

HI ds is 11ths and i am at my witts end! he walks all over now and the thing is he keeps on turning the tv off and turning the volume up. when ever he does it or goes to do it i tell him no and take him to all of his toys but he just laughs and goes to do it again. yesterday it went on for hrs with lunch and a nap in the middle. i am begining to hate it when he is up. please help me

Unless it is something really worth watching (not just daytime tv)...I would say turn the television off yourself and try distracting ds by playing with his toys with him/reading to him/physical play (horsey horsey etc) Maybe he is doing it because it gets a reaction/attention out of you.

even when it is off he still goes to it and fiddles with the buttons, hes got a fasination with it. he does it at every bodies house. i h=just wanna try and make him forget about it if i can

jodie1984 I so know what you're going through... unplug the TV if you're not watching that'll confuse him

ds did the same with walking up to the tv turning around to check whether you're watching, giggle and even though (or especially because) I said NO did it anyways. It's irritating but best bet in our case was to totally ignore him, as he was doing it to get attention. Still has the occassional stint of button pushing but generally I then just give him one of his toys with lots of buttons on

Repeat after me... it's only a phase!

don't mentione keyboards LOL these are still a struggle at 21 months it's gotta be worth his attention seeing that mama, papa and sister use it so much... we've got a spare keyboard floating around he can jab his little porkchop fingers at ;)

others of ds's favourites...

toy cars in vacuum cleaner hose/hamster tubes or anything tubular that could be used as a tunnel, only to get terribly upset because they get stuck

running off with wireless mouse rendering pc practically useless

filling wash basin in bathroom with a bit of water and then splashing so much the floor gets cleaned

running off and hiding toothbrushes - or in the latest instance with my electric toothbrush charger!

oh no! How are you staying calm? I guess ive got it all to come, he is so cheeky hes even got a cheeky smile already. he was chatting some old lady up in adsa last week while i was packing the shopping he just doesnt care bless him.

sounds like you've got a slighly younger version of my ds... his grin is so cheeky & cute you just have to forgive him. Also I do have a break for 6h a day as I work... that does help A LOT if I were with them 24/7 I'd probably be self-medicating with a nice bottle of vino.

As for staying calm... that's all you can do... either that or run around sounding like the mad cat lady out of the Simpsons

Saying that dh and I have very different approaches... I tend to ignore i.e. not giving attention to, behaviour that annoys me tremendously, after the old motto... bad attention is still attention. Obviously I intervene if it gets out of hand. DH on the other hand is a reactive parent and likes to raise his voice and slap on the nappy as a deterrent. Granted it works... dd (4.5) only has to be 'threatened' with 'I tell papa' and she behaves but that's not the way I want it... tempting as a reign of terror might be.

So now I tell dh when I'm purposly ignoring one of the kids so he doesn't spoil the effect it that makes sense.

DP is just like that often saying ' i got a tap when i was a kid' Ye but hes 11mths?!?!

i am soo glad i work aswell i do 3 days for 5hrs and altho that it stressful it is bliss sometimes.

Oh they do understand NO and a slap at that age, I just think if you slap too often it looses it's effect. If my hand 'escapes' and I slap dd or ds on the butt then they know it's something really bad they've done (like dd running out onto the road after me telling her to stop, her looking back and grinning and then running off anyway)

They are so cute, i cant see the stage for number 2 yet, it gives me nightmeres.

DS is just the same he stands there waitng for you to look at him, you say no, he sweels like a girl and laughs then touches something hes not aloud. Hes started pinching now tho which is worrying. I hope that is a phase to.

It sounds like you do a great job.

well my 14 month old has been doing all these things. lol, I'm so glad that it's not just her.

she'll stop when I say 'no' but then she'll give you a sideays look and then slowly go towards the thing again with a big grin on her face, if it wasn't so annoying it would be hilarious. shes sooooo cheeky.
