strip washing - does this sound right?

I am strip washing dds nappies. I put them on a sixty degree long wash and a rinse setting. There were still bubbles so I put them on another rinse setting. And another. And another. I reckon they are on about their eigth rinse now and there are still some bubbles. Could they still be coming from the nappies or could the detergent be coming from elsewhere in the machine?

When I have strip washed before I think I did three long wash cycles with extra rinses, followed advice on the nappy lady website.

I know this sounds weird, but lick one, then you will be able to taste the detergent if it is there! Might be the quickest way of doing it lol
