Eek, should I be stopping DD from reading her story to her friend?

I'm cringing a bit listening to DD1 (8). She has written a story 1250 words long and she has just read the whole thing to her friend. Now she wants me to print a copy off to give to the friend. Friend is being nice ('that's a really good story'), but should I be stopping her?

I feel it's a bit overbearing, but on the other hand I don't want to stop her being proud of her work. WWYD?

Print off 2 copies, one for her friend and the other for you to bind nicely and put on your shelf proudly.

can always apologise to other friends mother fr the extra recycling but you're celebrating an achievement

Why would you stop her? Surely this is between her and her friend. Unless the story is offensive or you are short of paper I think it's none of your business really and should let her get on with it.

I would be terribly proud and smug if it was my dd :)

Thank you... Maybe I'm being a bit controlling. You're right, it is between her & her friend. It just feels a bit much to make someone sit & listen while you read out something as long as that. And I wonder what her friend's mum will think if she gives her a copy? Won't she think it's a bit showy-offy? But I don't want to discourage DD who has worked very hard on the story.

It's fine, let her be proud of herself and the work she's done. Her friend might actually being enjoying it.

Please don't make her feel like people wouldn't want to hear what she's got to say, she's only 8 years old.

Feel slightly ashamed now of wanting to stop her. Luckily I didn't and her friend has been promised a copy when corrections and amendments have been made.

That's brilliant, so was her friend helping her edit it? I think that would have been fun for both of them.

You could suggest that they design a neighbourhood newspaper (just for your consumption).

I wrote a really, really bad story for a school short story collection when I was about that age. I don't know how many words it was but it doubled the size of the booklet

I still write now at 41. I love writing it's one of my main hobbies and while I'm not going the publishing route or anything it's filled in my life with a very wholesome hobby.

I now write 50k word bad, bad stories every November (Nanowrimo.org). So if this continues she'll be able to join us in a few years recruit them early I say

Sadly no, her friend wasn't involved in the creative process at all, just pinned down and made to listen!
