1mo won't sleep in pram

Silly me! I foolishly thought that all babies fell asleep in their prams when taken for a walk. Obviously not! My one month old daughter just won't stop crying when she is in her pram. I'm hoping she'll get more used to it as she gets older, as I personally like to take our walk during the day and the sleep will stop her getting overtired. Has anyone had a similar experience?

yes. DC1 was like this but we didn't realise until she was around that age that she had wrap(silent) reflux and hated lying flat. A wrap sling was a saviour at that stage and as she got bigger she became more comfortable in the carrycot.

we eventually got a wedge so she wasn't so flat but she was a bit older.

Yep my daughter was the same, only she reacted similarly if in a car seat or held by anyone other than me. I resorted to a sling :)

Is she scared? We did our first pram outing with dd2 today who is also almost four weeks, she urgled and gurgled then fell asleep. This is in total contrast to Dd1 who screamed herself sick the first trip out that we took.

I think the difference is that dd2 is bigger, so she doesn't roll about and feels secure. Dd1 was much smaller and we ended up rolling up a blanket to make her a 'nest' which we tucked a sheet over the top of.

My 9 week old only started sleeping in the pushchair a few weeks ago and it's still fairly hit and miss. If she's not asleep in there she's not happy and i have to get her out and sling her - I think she likes the view from higher up!

Both mine hated the buggy till c.8wks.

DD was the same. It turned out to be silent reflux. She was much happier in a sling. We used Kari-Me & Moby wraps till 6 months when we switched to an Ergo.

My ds would only sleep in a carseat that fitted into a pushchair iykwim?

He needed to be raised a bit due to reflux and wind.

He also liked slings, perhaps your dd just needs to be raised a bit .

DS has reflux and is on medication and cows milk protein free milk to help him. He was awful in his pram/carseat as a tiny and this continued for a long while. In fact, at 6m now, he's not fantastic and whines after a fairly short time in either.
Personally, I think it was a combination of his reflux and his need (some would say want) to be held. It used to frustrate me that I could barely let go of him without him screaming at me but after a while I just started to think 'if that's what he needs right now, then that's what I have to give him'.
It's a pain really, especially now he's getting heavier (nearly 20lb now) but it won't be forever.

I'd suggest trying a sling to be honest. I tried a couple and he's best in a wrap. I really wish I had tried this sooner, I may have saved myself a lot of heartache and tearing my hair out as to why he wouldn't settle.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice. Don't think it's reflux, as she doesn't mind being in her Moses basket. However, I'm hoping to give the sling thing a go. Was supposed to go to a meet to try some today but we overslept - which was just what we all needed! Looking forward to trying some shortly though.

Dc1 was like this, and didnt settle in pram until we switched from carrycot to stroller mode - dc1 wanted to look out and hated being cooped up in a carrycot.

I used a carrier until dc1 was old enough for the stroller - around 4 months.

WinningBread · 02/07/2013 23:15

DD hated the pram, car seat and pushchair. She will only go in a sling - and is getting a little heavy at 15 months!

She's walking a bit now, so I get a rest sometimes....
