Is a cot bed the same size as a single junior bed (when sides are taken down)?

Or is a single bed bigger?

Dc1 will be 21 months when dc2 is born, she's still in cot and has no problem in there at all. Dc2 will sleep in a Moses but dc1 outgrew this at 10 weeks, after which dc2 will have dc1s cot.

Dc1 will be around 2 at this stage.

I can't move her to a bed with no sides as dc1s room is right next to very steep stairs, and the way the layout is makes putting a stairgate in impossible - both on the stairs and on door.

I can trust that dc1 won't wake up and walk out of bed and fall down the stairs at tht age, do was thinkin of getting a cotbeb until we moved (in April) then taking the sides down to a normal bed once we were somewhere safe.

Does this sound feasible? How long I'd your little ones stay in a cot or cotbed?

I think they are the same size - 140 cms long. My 5 yr old is about 115 cm tall, so would still fit (I reckon you need about 20 cms more than your height, in bed length) though we moved up to an adult bed at about 4 and a half, just because it seemed a bit narrow then, with all the teddies that had to squash in as well.

cot bed slightly smaller than our ikea junior beds. I moved dd when she was 18 months (before ds was born)into a single with a wooden lindam bed guard. she didn't even realise she could get out. the door also had a gate, a pressure one fitted to the outside frame so the door could still close...would that be an option? dnephew is 3 and still in cot bed

Thank you both, mrs the layout of the stairs and door frame doesnt make it possible to fit a safetygate which is the problem really.
