dilemma - hand, foot and mouth

I have a friend that's due to visit today for the weekend. However, she's just let me know that she and her baby spent time on weds with a baby who has now been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth. They didn't touch but may have shared a toy. I'd be gutted to cancel but I don't want my 1 yo to get it and she won't want to be away from home if her 7 month has it. Should we risk it or cancel? what would you do?

Isn't it a bit late to cancel now? Does your child go to nursery or playgroup? If so, they are likely to come into contact with all sorts of things on a regular basis and you would never know...

There is some info on HFM here

Hand foot and mouth is just like a cold, only difference is there's also a rash. Sometimes the spotty rash can be a bit uncomfortable but generally kids are no more unwell than if they have a cold. It's not a dangerous illness.

There's probably been lots of other kids at nursery with colds mouthing the toys etc. Personally I wouldn't be that bothered, especially if your friend's child doesn't have symptoms but that's just me

Sorry, I see you didn't mention anything about nursery but I'd still not cancel.

Thanks for the replies. JJJ - it was more her thinking about cancelling. Mine goes to nursery and we've decided not to cancel. I think we both just panicked a little when we looked up HFM on the internet.
