3.5 year old - Mummy, how did baby get in your tummy?

Any advice on how to explain this to 3.5 year old DD1? She has asked a couple of times recently (she has 6 month old sister, DD2) and I have basically fobbed her off by changing the subject, as not sure how best to tackle this. Are there any good books for this age?

I'm interested, 4yr old ds asks too since ds2 came along a few months ago. Today he asked if I had another baby in my tummy!

'It grew from a seed'

what kind of seed

'well, i have a little egg in me, and daddy has a special swimming seed, and he put a swimming seed in me and when it met my egg they started a baby together'

I just answered with, "daddy put it/her/him there," at that age.

I didn't ever get any further questions after that but could have so easily come unstuck.

We went with the "made from love" she was happy with that...for the time being anyway

Thanks! I think my problem is that her response to these would just be 'but how?', thus needing further explanation.

Looking on in interest.

My 4 year old constantly asks me how she is made. The other day she asked if she was made of plastic, I Smile and say when she is a little older I will tell her the full story.

Similar to Joan. But also explained the seed came from Daddy's willy and swam up my vagina to meet the egg in my womb. DD was 2.3 when DS was born and the questions increased, and she has asked a few clarifying questions in the last year too.

I clearly remember being shown a cut through diagram of sex when I was 4 in the Natural History Museum and we had books at home, but I don't remember ever being 'told' iyswim, which is how I want it to be for my children.

Daddy planted a seed in mummy's flower garden Grin
