What age have your babies been siting up?

Hey was just wondering what sort of age babies usually sit up as my daughter is 6 months and seems to be making no attempt she just wants to be on her tummy all her time and she won't stay on her back as she rolls onto her tummy. Also any tips on how to help her learn to sit up? Thanks

Just before 7mo

DD was sitting up at 4 months but didn't roll until 8 months.

I think they're all different. My dd was like yours at 6mo she was obsessed with rolling onto her tummy but couldn't sit unaided.

She started to crawl commando style at 6.5 months and finally sat just over 7mo, but wasn't really interested in doing it. . She has been crawling everywhere since then and was pulling up to standing before 8mo.

I really wouldn't worry. They all do it eventually. My niece sat at 5mo but then just sat there for months and didn't really crawl till 11months!

my man started sitting up at about 7 months too. At first he had pillows behind him because he fell over a lot.
We had to encourage him to sit because of some complications at birth so we popped him in his highchair with towels to prop him up (he ws having physio at the time).

I'm not sure you need to encourage your lady yet. It was one of the checks the HV did at the 9/10 month check and the ones who didn't just got some advice, not a fast tract to physio sessions.

tummys are quite good fun I expect!

8-9 months with my 4.

DoodleAlley · 25/06/2013 14:33

DS sat two days before his nine month check!

I think nowadays they do a twelve month check instead now but at the nine month check that was one of the things they checked so I wouldn't be worried yet.

DS was crawling at 5 1/2 months. He couldn't sit unsupported until 6 1/2 months.

I envy the parents of those lovely calm babies who could be plonked down with a toy to amuse themselves.

She's just learned to sit up this last few weeks..

She will be 8 months next week.

MonstersDontCry · 25/06/2013 14:55

Just before 7 months.

kalidasa · 25/06/2013 15:18

DS is coming up for seven months (in a few days) and he's only really been sitting safely unsupported - i.e. quite stable and happy to play/crane around like that without toppling over - for a week or so. So I suppose about 6.5 months. He is quite obsessed with the sitting now and wants to do it all the time but shows absolutely no interest in/signs of crawling! I guess they are all different.

BabsAndTheRu · 25/06/2013 15:20

All three of mine sat up at 9 months.

Nicknamefail · 25/06/2013 15:48

At 8 months. Mine loved tummy time too and only wanted to do this. Before she could sit she if we put her on a sitting position she would lean back. My hv told me to sit her very briefly twice a day holding her in a sitting position which seems to help.

Mummyfizzy · 25/06/2013 15:54

My dd was sitting up about 6 months. She didn't roll from back to tummy until 7 months. Now at 8 months can't get her off her tummy! If your dd is having lots of tummy time that will strengthen the muscles she needs for sitting. My dd liked being in her bumbo a lot before she was really secure at sitting up by herself.

notadoctor · 25/06/2013 17:48

My DD sounds quite similar to yours - around 6mo she wanted to be on her tummy all the time. She was crawling by 6.5mo but showed no interest in sitting whatsoever then around 8mo she just started doing it.

Witt · 25/06/2013 17:58

About 7.5 months and it happened very quickly. She was a roller up till that point.

Have you tried her in a bumbo seat so she gets the idea? I think you can get them quite cheaply off ebay.

rootypig · 25/06/2013 18:11

6 months on the dot - and it happened within a few days. Rolled a couple of times at 4 months and hasn't since Hmm - but she seems to be gearing up to crawl from sitting.

From thread responses seems like sitting, crawling, rolling can all come in a bit of a random order!

RubyrooUK · 25/06/2013 18:19

DS1 could sit up unsupported at 16 weeks. Shock

Despite that, he didn't crawl till 8 months and didn't walk till a year so not particularly early for either of those milestones. So early sitting up bore no relation to later developments! Grin

ItCameFromOuterSpace · 25/06/2013 18:40

Dtd first sat unaided at 4.5 months.

dogindisguise · 25/06/2013 21:03

DS was 8 months
Dd is now 6 months and can't sit unaided yet. Nor has she rolled.
