my DT got money for their birthday
its the first time they have known what money is and can ask for things that they want

do you buy your kids stuff they want, stuff they need or save it in a bank account for them?

just wondering what other mums do

I spent some of it on DVD from amazon for them, the rest will be spent in build a bear with vouchers they got

A bit of each tbh. Although they have different 'pots' of money for different things, so generally have some 'free reign' money that they can do as they please with. Some money in a savings account that needs my approval to withdraw (but is ultimately spent on what they want) and trust fund accounts that obv will an available to them at 18. Depending how much money they get depends where it goes. The free reign is up to £5, their savings accounts have up to £100 and extras go into the trust funds.

Although this is only the past year or so before that I would usually buy things they needed, they are 8+6.
