Breastfeeding, weaning and weight gain (mummy not baby)

Hello

Dd is 8 mo, was ebf until 6 mo. Now just solids and bf.

I lost all pregnancy weight pretty early on, however have noticed that I have started putting weight on all of a sudden. I put this down to dd eating more food and drinking less milk (however I am still eating choc cake, cheese and all things bad like there is no tomorrow! I know I need to cut this down now).

Just wondering whether people generally started dieting whilst still bfing? I mean beyond cutting out the "bad" food.

Don't want my supply to be affected etc as obviously more important dd gets everything she needs but equally I am a little worried.

Did anyone find they put weight on after weaning? Did dieting work without affecting supply?

Thank you.

Hmm - I don't know. I guess people respond very individually to this.
If I were you I would change the way I ate rather than count calories. Eat less in terms of portion size, more often. That way your metabolism will keep being challenged. But I would feel a bit wrong about cutting calories. There's something on kellymom about dieting and bfing you can look up - I seem to remember reading that it said you could make a small reduction (ie. 1800 calories) without worry.

BUt then again...I didn't lose my baby weight early on. I ebfed until DS was 5 months, then combination fed for another 2. I didn't lose any weight (despite being reasonably careful with what I was eating) until I actually stopped breast feeding completely. It was very odd - just fell off me, which instinctively sounds just wrong doesn't it.

Thank you both for the reassurance. And good luck QT.
