When did your baby learn cause and effect?

My problem is that my 12 month old is constantly throwing his comforter out of his cot and then screaming blue murder until I get it for him because he wants it back in bed with him. He refuses to sleep without it, but thinks it is fun to throw it on the ground...

I have come to the conclusion I can either keep getting it for him until he realises that he shouldn't throw it in the ground cos he wants it in his cot OR I can leave it and hope that after a few (sleep deprived) nights he will realise that he can either sleep without it and/or not throw it away.

Any advice?

Have you tried a dummy clip? My lb sleeps with a soft one attached to his babygrow...works wonders ;)

It sounds like he does know cause a d effect - if he throws out his much loved comforter then a parent will come to hand it back, thus giving him the reassurance and attention he wants/needs.

No advice really, just sympathy! My daughter is a bit older and isn't a sleeper, it's exhausting isn't it!

I think you might be right ghost! Haha. He has always been a terrible sleeper and this is just the latest thing.

mumto I might see if I can find one of them, although he has a tendency to tear off anything I try and attach to him (bibs etc.) but it sounds like it is worth a try!

I would say about a year they know.

I warn DS that if he throws whatever I will not give him it back 2 or 3 times then take it away for maybe 10 mins
