Baby sleeping too much?

Hi all, before I start...I know I'm blessed with a baby that sleeps during the night, but am starting to get a tad worried today.

My DD is 5.5weeks old. I fed her at 10:30pm last night, she went straight down and didnt wake until 5:30am this morning. I fed her again (strong for about 10mins then dopey and sleepy feeding for a further 30mins) and she went back to sleep again. I woke her at 9am as she was fast asleep and again had an awake feed for about 10mins then dozey feed for a further 30mins. She was sparko again straight after that and is sleeping soundly still now. Am going to try and wake her at 11:30am for another feed as I'm worried she must be hungry but is just sleeping so much.

I produce a fair bit of milk so am thinking ill express for the rest of the day so I can monitor how much she's getting in each feed, but would you worry if your baby was sleeping that much?!? She doesn't tend to nap much during the day and only goes down for an hour at a time, if that.

Thanks.

Just to say - how much you express isn't an indication of how much milk baby is getting as they're much more efficient than pumps!
Does she seem alert and have good colour while she's awake?

Is she putting on weight and having lots of wet nappies and is she reasonably alert when she's awake? Possibly make a GP's appointment to just get her checked over but if she's gaining weight with wet nappies and is reasonably easily awakened I wouldn't worry too much.
I wouldn't try and express to see how much she's getting, it's not a good indicator, I could never express much but had babies who put on weight steadily.
My DD used to sleep loads and slept through the night 10.30-5.00am most nights from 6 weeks and reliably from 8 weeks. She still likes her sleep and is in her final year at uni.

Expressing will not give you an indicator of your milk supply.

How is her weight gain? Nappies?

If this is the only night she has done it, then it's possible she's building up for the six week growth spurt to start, where you will feel like she does nothing but feed for a few days :) Keep an eye on her.

Ok she just woke at 11am with a wee-filled nappy. She's happily wide-awake and wriggling around on the activity mat now. She normally sleeps from about 11pm-5:30am but was just worried for the extra hours this morning. She seems fine when awake and is pooing/weeing ok.

As she barely naps during the day it may just be she makes up for it at night.

Yeah she may be ramping up for big growth spurt maybe!

It may also be connected to the warm weather - all the babies at my baby group were sleepyheads today, whereas normally they're all awake and active. We could only assume it was because of the weather!

I think I would try and get her into a routine and wake her up every 3 hours for a feed. I know when my DS was first born and he slept alot that was what the midwife suggested. Personally I think that 5 weeks is very young to be sleeping through the night. She should still be having night feeds.

I would keep an eye on her. If it was just this one incidence there's a good chance it's nothing, but better safe then sorry right?

If this persists I would probably take her for a checkup just to play it safe.
