Rash and fever but no other symptoms

I posted earlier as I thought my DS of 17 months may have been having an allergic reaction to sun cream or possibly new foods that he tried yesterday. I took him to a pharmacy where she felt the rash suggested a food allergy as it was so widespread. It is now covering most of his body. She gave us antihistamine to administer.

We gave one dose about an hour ago and the leaflet suggested an improvement should be seen in half an hour. No such improvement unfortunately!

Anyway, I just took his temperature before putting him to bed and its 38.4. I'm now wondering if this seems more like a virus as I've not heard of allergies causing a temperature. However, he shows no other symptoms of illness and has been his normal active and happy self today.

I'm very confused! Any thoughts?

If there is a temperature as well, then it suggests a virus. Sometimes viruses can be very mild and others can be a lot worse. He may come down with other symptoms like a runny nose in the next day or so, or it may just pass off with nothing else in a day or two.

When my DD was about 18 months she had a rash and a temperature for a couple of days with no other symptoms, absolutely fine in herself. I took her to the gp who diagnosed rubella until I said she had had the MMR. As it wasn't that then it was just a 'virus'.

I would make sure DS has plenty of fluids and keep up with the calpol.

Good luck, it is worrying when they get these things.
