Help! I'm panicking!

I was told this morning while I was checking on my student finance on the phone that I'm not eligible for childcare grant (I really don't understand how this is possible as my dh's income is low). I was told that I get the grant and loan. But I've read somewhere that the more grant you get the less of a loan you get. Is this true? I'm really panicking about how I'm going to pay for childcare :( it's really looking like I'm not going to be able to go to uni :(

Don't panic! Grant and loan are adjusted so you still get same amount, just more is grant so doesn't have to be paid back IYSWIM. Student finance can be a bit of a nightmare, I'm constantly being adjusted and readjusted and sending paperwork off but I do get a childcare grant. They take into account certain household outgoings, not just basic income; TBH not sure how it is all worked out so I'm not much help!

If you fill in the online application it should tell you what you are likely to receive, once all the required evidence has been processed by them you'll get a decision; should be well before the start of the course.

Good luck! Smile

Also forgot to mention individual universities usually give out bursaries from their own funds; I received an extra £1500 a year that I didn't realise I could get before I started; my university didn't exactly broadcast this info though, had to do some digging!

Thanks :) I've sorted it all now. I can afford to pay for dd to be in nursery for 2 days a week out of my student finance, dh gets 2 days off a week which he can arrange around dd not being in nursery and my wonderful mil has offered to have her for the other day.
