ds 2 1/2 is potty trained during the day, but still wears a nappy (active fit) at night. we tried him with no nappy as he doesn't really like wearing it at nghttime but it was a disaster (leaked in his sleep, so evidently he isn't ready for a whole night's worth of bladder control.

he has been putting his hand down his nappy though, and pulling his penis upwards and the result is that at least every other night he wakes up having leaked.

this morning he was up like this at 4.50am, and came to our bed (as the waterproof sheet was still drying from the night before and i just couldn't face the rigmorole of changing. unfortunately he (and we) didn't get back to sleep.

i need to solve this problem...please help me, any suggestions at all gratefully received

Sorry, no real advice. Just to say, we're having the same problem. My DS (just turned 3) has been dry during the day for a couple of months now. Like yours, he wears a nappy at night. He sleeps around 12-13 hours very soundly, so I know he couldn't go all night with no nappy yet. Have tried different nappies, pull-ups, not giving much fluid after 5pm,etc. Will watch this thread to see what tips you get.

Atm I'm considering getting rid of the nappies altogether on a night.
DD is totally dry in the day and will take herself to the toilet.
I'm thinking just going cold turkey and getting a couple of waterproof sheets and sticking the potty in her room or leaving a nightlight on so she can take herself to the loo.

Could you try something similar? Would he use a potty if it was there?

Heathcliffscathy · 26/05/2006 17:30

tried that last week. he weed himself in his sleep.

am so sleep deprived feel like i'm tripping

Sad Theres nothing worse than sleep deprivation. It does make you feel awful.

Have you tried different nappies?

Heathcliffscathy · 26/05/2006 17:36

tell me about it.

he is under strictest orders not to put his hand in his nappy tonight. i have no problem with him touching his willie at all (although he does tend to yank it in a way that makes me fear for it) but NO MORE LEAKING! I can't take it.

I always found the active fit rubbish at night - I used to buy the normal pampers ones (think they are called baby dry) and found them good. You could try putting them on back to front if you are worried about the tapes being opene. Good luck!

Ds is totally trained during the day, but we use Huggies Overnights at night. It works great.

claireh11 · 03/07/2006 16:12

Hi we had same prob with ds when he went through the night. Only nappies I found that worked were tesco's own in a larger size to be more absorbant. definately the best nappied (I always used active fit before) and would deffo use them again on number 2
