Our 2nd thread is full but it won't prevent us from laughing, moaning, keeping on supporting each other, sharing and chatting over our new life with 1 or 2, even 5 children !
Here you go, fantastic 40+ Mums, a brand new thread for all of us, old friends from the pregnancy thread or new joiners

Rosie, glad you got your pics back!
Have builders atm at home changing our windows, A managed to fall asleep despite the noise, DS finds time very long as we wait for her to wake up. We couldn't make it to nursery for 1st settling in session, yesterday she played alongside me while I was filing paPerwork, next session is on Friday.
Eagle, fongers crossed baby E will keep on sleeping through, very envious here :)
LRM we have waking up every 3 hours still if she misses her 2nd nap

Afternoon - had another successful night with Baby E sleeping through til 5.30am. Curiously, that's 3 nights in a row she's woken at 5.30am exactly - how on earth does she know what time it is? I was a bit wrecked as went to bed too late last night and unfortunately she wouldn't go back to sleep after being fed at 5.30 so just kept her on the boob until she threw up over the bed!

Despite my shattered state, we had our first swimming lesson this morning - I rang first thing to enquire about availability and found they had space in their first lesson of the day, which gave us a few minutes to pack things, get in the car and get to the pool. It was a bit stressful getting there, but the lesson was lovely. Only problem was that in my haste to get there, I forgot to pack spare nappies (only had a too-small swim nappy on me). When I changed her on arrival, she had pooed a bit already and at the end of the lesson had to discreetly pop it back on Blush Bad mummy award for me!

Naming ceremony plans gathering apace - am sat at the laptop while DD is in her Jumperoo and have possibly found a wonderful venue (sole use of a historic building at a bargain price) and so am contacting relatives with a tentative date in 6 weeks' time. Have also told DP what I am doing now - there was mumblings about his family probably wanting a Catholic christening but tough titty to that! Only concern I have now really is how to get through the ceremony without crying uncontrollably? Drugs?

BBD so sorry you aren't free next wed Sad - I'm going to stay overnight in London with a friend and have already made arrangements so will press on with this date and hopefully can return soon and will see you then. Regents Park sounds like a great idea.

Rosie what a lovely long sleep for a young baby! Great idea to give DD to DH at 5am. I remember the hand slurping well - little babies are so funny.

Shock re your live global video feed. I really think your dear MiL deserves her very own thread, or perhaps her own book! So glad you got your pics back - now back them up!

blueblackdye · 28/08/2013 17:36

Eagle, if you choose Regents, I will do my best to try to meet you down there, A has a settling in session on that day and I will have DS with me too, if it is not too tricky with 2 kids.
Windows are in, 3 out of 4, dust everywhere but hopefully no more draft this winter and better noise insulation too, not that my street is noisy but it will be nice. Tomorrow DS is going to have his replaced, fear the dust really.

Hi all

Been very busy. Holiday, getting ready for mil's final move, getting ready for ds to go to school.

Am free on weds 4 but will have 2 children. Will keep eyes peeled for arrangements.

Xx

scarecrow22 · 29/08/2013 13:31

eagle - hurrah, 3 nights is a habit!

We are free Weds 4th. Should be just me and T.

Took T "swimming" yesterday - more accurately being squashed in a pool looking bemused and unsure. V cute in swim outfit Smile Also got him weighed today as in July he had dripped back to 25th centile; since blurping got much better really filled put. He's now more than double birth weight at fraction over 7kg and nearly back at 50th centile. Very bonny!

scarecrow22 · 29/08/2013 13:32

*swished in the pool Hmm

EagleRay · 29/08/2013 15:13

Just had 4th night of sleeping through - she even managed to extend it to 6.15am today. I really need some sleep training for myself as am terrible for not going to bed on time and then am wrecked by the early morning wakeup - my own silly fault really.

We had a weigh-in today too - she's now 7.73kg so not that much bigger than Baby T Scarecrow, although have recently discovered that of course boys are bigger than girls! She also momentarily stood holding onto furniture this morning, although not showing any signs of pulling herself up.

At the weigh-in I overheard the HV telling a bemused mum to do BLW, ie this is the only method she should be opting for Hmm

Looks like we will have a lovely gathering next week. I haven't figured out travel times yet but aiming for mid-late morning for arrival.

Great to hear from you Somewhere and will be great to see you too next week!

BBD - urgh to building work (speaking as someone who has just discovered that the carpenter spilt paint on my brand new stair carpet after telling him several times to cover the carpet if he was painting!!)

Trying to work out what to do on my birthday on Saturday (working on the basis that DP will do nothing). Massage, picnic, bike ride, trip to the coast, stay in bed, have no idea... all I know is that I will have to organise it!

blueblackdye · 29/08/2013 19:13

Eagle, I would go for stay in bed and facial, scrub and massage, I treat myself with the last 3 when on hols.
The builders are gone, I need someone to paint now, the windows are great, very pleased but they left a few indents on my walls, bl+*^#y builders. I spent all afternoon hoovering and mopping but I m glad to have my flat back. Cleaner is coming tomorrow, all the shelves, chandeliers and pics need dusting.
Welldone baby E for sleeping so well !
Last night, DH cuddled A back to sleep at 11pm, 2 and 4am, at least we now know she does nOt need a feed at night.
We shall repeat this until DH leaves on a 10 day business trip next week end. Hope she will understand it is useless to wake up at night.
She is 13 mo today and had her jabs. And her first haircut. With a massive blue violet bump of the size of a pigeon egg on her forehead, her very short hair and her sleeveless vest, she looks like GI Jane !!!!
We have missed 2 settling on sessions due to builders late arrival yesterday and today, so Wed 4th, I might have a chance to meet up with you all.

I was re-reading some older posts idly while BF this eve, hence a rather random reply!! Rosie I also wanted CDs with nursery rhymes. I got this: www.amazon.co.uk/Very-Favourite-Nursery-Rhyme-Record/dp/B003334SJ0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1377813635&sr=8-6&keywords=nursery+rhymes+cd
which is sung in a rather folky and nasal style, but I kind of like, and it's not as lumbering as some nursery songs.

I also got this: www.amazon.co.uk/Sing-And-Learn-Volume-1/dp/B006CIO0JG/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1377813678&sr=8-8&keywords=nursery+rhymes+cd and the second one in the series. The first of the two is the best, but I do like The Okey-Kokey on the second, and DS enjoyed us dancing to it with him in his Baby Bjorn. At least, I think he enjoyed it!! Grin

Listened to, and sang along to these quite a lot when DS was very little. I found it quite good to pop him in the doorway bouncer and have them on while I did a bit of tidying around him and he didn't feel too neglected. I also remember sitting in the kitchen blubbing my eyes out while holding him very tight. I guess that was just those very early, very hormonal days when you can feel a bit alone, even with your little one.

Eagle based on my experiences in general and recent, crap birthday, I would strongly recommend that you get out of the house as early as possible so you don't get embroiled in housework / childcare. Get yourself to a spa and have massages, pedi, mani, hairdo. Then get DH to bring baby Eagle along for a champagne cream tea, when they have both been far enough away from you for long enough for you to really miss them!! If there was more notice, I'd volunteer to come with you. Grin Happy Birthday for Sat. Flowers Cake Wine

Waves to all. Got to keep this short so I can do some more midnight house work.... zzzzzzz

EagleRay · 29/08/2013 23:54

Thanks for the birthday advice BBD and FF - I've spoken to DP on the phone this eve and tried to make it clear that Saturday is my day, and the focus will be on me! I'm going to ring around tomorrow and see if I can book a massage somewhere, plus will think of somewhere nice to go for lunch

We had fun in the bath this eve - have got a huge rolltop thing, so filled it up and we both got in, with DD in her sit-in inflatable ring. It was dead useful as acted like a hands-free kit while I washed her and handed her toys to play with.

Bed now - my sleep training is not going well as only have 6 hours before she is due to wake - oops

scarecrow22 · 30/08/2013 03:17

eagle and ff my birthday coming up in September so taking notes! Next year we should set up a spa in the grads snug and draft in some extra er talent in the grads snug for the month of birthdays Smile
Right back to sleep zzz

phew! just survived taking nephew 15, toddler 2.8 and T to Natural History Museum. Amazing to see DD begin to interact with the museum. Years of exploring to do. To my joy she chose a magnifying glass in the shop so can't wait to go out exploring for things to.look at. Both were so.so.good I'm allowing myself to feel really proud of them. exhausted but v happy Smile.

EagleRay · 30/08/2013 21:39

Welcome back to the UK Goat - sorry you had a rough journey home, but good to hear BG enjoyed being back. Hope you've managed to get some rest now...

BBD - you beat me on the sleep front last night as Dd woke at 4.40am, although not a squeak out of her in between! Did you manage to get to nursery in the end?

Scarecrow well done on the NHM trip - lovely that DD is so interested in it all. I like the idea of talent in the snug...

I have good news to report on the birthday front Smile. I used to be a member of a posh spa at a local hotel until just before DD was born and happened to be driving past today and remembered I had still had some guest passes, so popped in to ask if I could use them and also see what they had available treatment-wise. So, tomorrow immediately after breakfast, the three of us are heading over there for a spa morning. DD can go in the main pool, and then we can take it in turns to mind her while we use the therapy pool, saunas etc. Then afterwards I have booked a full body massage suitable for an old gimmer (treatment for stretchmarks, veins etc), and then we will go somewhere nice for lunch. Frankly I couldn't care less what happens for the rest of the day as long as I get a relaxing few hours. DP happy to go along with it all as I will pay and also it's relatively cheap as only have to pay for the massage.

Wonder if he's bought me a card... Hmm

GoatBongosAnonymous · 30/08/2013 23:23

Happy birthday Eagle!! Have a wonderful day, and I hope your DP treats you with the luxury and loveliness that you deserve Smile

Scarecrow, how is your dad? And great weight gain for T!
BBD, welcome back! Hope A got on well at nursery.
Rosie, love the idea of "camping" at home Smile. And so glad you got your pictures back.
1000FF, love the idea of your DS making train noises, so cute! Re: lullabies, I always sang to DS when he was a baby, and I've started singing it for DD as well, and we had it played at her naming ceremony.
Eagle, I will pm you our script/readings if it's not too late! Feel free to ignore obviously. Hope your DP gets some answers from the consultant this week. Great news on the sleep front. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY Cake Flowers! Hope you have a wonderful day.
LRM, sorry for the bad sleep, hope you've had a better night.
Goat, welcome home!
Phew, hope I haven't missed anyone! AFM, had a lovely couple of days out this week - went to a local NT place with a friend and her son on Tuesday, and DD was a star, smiling at everyone who spoke to her and eating half my orange drizzle cake. Then took DD to my parents for the day on Weds and had a fab day in Canterbury with DS. DP's workload is easing off a bit now so he's off this weekend and taking Tuesday off to do something together - DS back to school on Thursday, don't know where the time has gone! Have a great weekend everyone.

blueblackdye · 31/08/2013 09:22

Happy birthday Eagleray ! Your plans sound great, enjoy the relaxing day.
Wish everyone a lovely week end.

Scare well done on nmh - sounds exhausting - hats off!

Waves to all xxx

scarecrow22 · 31/08/2013 12:43

eagle I forgot the freshly baked Cake

scarecrow22 · 31/08/2013 13:21

knotty dad got out of hospital on Sun night and seems to be making good progress, thanks.
Your days out sound lovely Smile

just finished the NHS Couch to 5k (c25k) running programme. Should be elated but last couple weeks running tough as developed pain in pelvis and turns out it is twisted Sad Anyway. running is 50pc mental so onwards. Following the programme definitely saved me from falling into a bit of a dunk I think, so that was positive. Plus I've had 27 half hours with no children, done some lovely river and park runs, and missed the children Smile.

knottyhair · 31/08/2013 16:09

Great news about your dad Scarecrow Smile. Congrats on completing c25k, amazing! Hope your pelvis is OK, take care.
