Suggestions for a balanced approach to computer games please.

DS (4.5) loves anything techie and his latest obsession, thanks to DH is the Wii.

Usually he can play on it in the day, as an alternative to TV for around 30 mins. During the week DH and I both work so the only opportunity he would get to play is when we get home and before bedtime. We had a rule of no tv before bedtime (same rule before school) which I would extend to computers too but DH thinks this is unfair as that means DS can't play on the Wii during the week.

Any suggestions as to a balanced approach to this so DH DS gets what he wants but without affecting his evening wind down?

I don't think it's the end of the world if he can't play it before bed, he's only 4.5! I don't think a computer game is going to help with the wind-down process before bed, IMO! If it was me I would keep it for weekends for now!

I agree Lola bit DH likes playing it with DS. I just don't want to be the bad guy all the time!

I bet DH also likes a bit of quiet time in the evening to wind down himself too...? Won't be getting that if you've got a hard to settle 4.5 year old on a high from jumping around the living room playing on the wii

Have consistent rules, they are learning to read clocks so make it clear how the times he's allowed on are tied to what the clock says. Doesn't sound like you are doing things badly, though.
