4 y o DS has 'fallen into love' with me and wants to marry me...

I think all little boys do this for a while, don't they? I've been trying to talk him out of it, explaining that when he is bigger he will probaby find someone special nearer his own age etc, but I don;t think he is listening! Should I just say 'Yes Dear' and move on instead?

I am a nanny and my charge has said this for a while to me and to mum, we just explain we're going to be very old when he's ready to marry,and tend to leave it at that.

DS is 4y9m and at the moment is declaring his love for me all the time. I get "I love you mummy" followed by lots of kisses a few times a day, sometimes in public - it's a bit embarrassing!
I am sure it's just a phase....

I've heard this is coming and think it's really sweet but currently my 3.6 ds is going to marry Maisie from his nursery when he's bigger.... when he's not saving the day, putting out all the fires and contacting bob the builder to fix all manner of problems :)

My 3yr6m old hasn't said he wants to marry me but he often says I'm his "true love" & he kisses & cuddles all the time- I love it! He's just gorgeous and I will relish every second for as long as it lasts!

My 4 (now 5) year old DS came up with plans for an interesting polygamous union involving me, Scooby Doo and a Viennese tram. The cat has now been added to the list.

Apparently it's really common and entirely developmentally normal for children that age to become a bit fixated with the parent of the opposite sex. I would favour acknowledging how sweet it is that he loves you and move on using some kind of distraction. Make the most of it, it's so wonderful being the centre of their universe and all too soon it is gone.

Never mind the opposite sex, my Dd (3.6) used to regularly say she would marry me when she was grown up. I just said that was a lovely idea but that you can't get marriedto someone who is already in your family - getting married means a new person joins your family. So now we have various kids from her nursery class (gender apparently unimportant, which is fine Grin) who are rotated as the chosen one...

My kids have never done it with DH or I but have with each other. We just talked about different kinds of love, family love, friend love, romantic partner love, and how nice each one is, each one is different, and how nice their family love is.

My Ds wanted to marry me when he was four, then at five he changed his mind and was going to marry his best friend Steven. Now at six he's not going to marry anyone! So fickle!

My 2 youngest dcs both wanted to marry me at about this age. Ds2 is 4 and still does. Dd is 9 and now realises she doesn't want to and that she can't. She figured it out at about 5.

Enjoy it is what I say. It won't last. Get the extra cuddles in while you can. :)

Awww, that's so sweet. Enjoy while it lasts. DS & DD were going to wed each other (age 5 & 3 respectively).

Now age 13 & 11, they spit nails at each other given half a chance.

Yes, I've had that too! DS1 (5) often says he wants to marry me and he's going to be a famous artist, buy a big house for us and invite interesting people for lunch. Sounds quite nice actually!

my little neice is going to marry her granddad and Harry from one direction (urg) and have the other 4 one direction boys as boyfriends and maybe keep her boyfriend she has at school if he grows up tall like her uncle (my dp)... she's just turned 6

I think she maybe a little ambitious but normal :)

My DS is 5.5 and desperately wants to marry me... I tell him I will choose him a lively wife to join our family, LOL. He agreed to this, then whispering "I'll tell her I love her, but secretly I will only live you" ... makes me best MIL material!

Thanks for your lovely stories! I will enjoy it while it lasts. Funny though, he's shown a definite preference for leggy brunettes, so I am really not his type Hmm
