Ideally something that plays half-decent music which won't drive her parents too far around the bend... ;)

My ds had a tomy musical toy with 5 instruments you place on it and they twirled
Around and play music, putting differet combinations on changed the music. He loved it

None...musical toys drive you nuts Grin

Electronic - ELC chunky keys keyboard went down well with my 1 and 3 year old. I got this one used from Ebay, it is just as good.

DIY - metal xylophone (better sound than wooden one)

Maracas and xylophone already hugely popular here, and lullabye books that play melodies. Many thanks for these - off to check out your suggestions!
