OK, so twice in the last couple of weeks I've been reminded why I don't like putting young babies into routines

Twice, I have seen babies screaming for a feed and their mothers "trying to make them wait for it" because "it's not time for a feed yet".

[heart breaks]

What would you do in this situation?

funnily enough mymama no! ds had bottles at 7.30 ish
11.30ish
3.30ish
7.30ish
11.30ish
but now he's weaned I give him meals when he wants them and with snacks! Why is that?

He never cries for food or bottles, in fact before I weaned him I'd be the one crying because he never seemed hungry and only took a few ozs from each bottle.
I did feed on demand when I breast fed though so maybe I'm a mixture.

Yes, I wondered about that same thing Caligula. My other thought was that if you are giving formula at set times and the older the baby, the more it will need, you can eventually give 9oz a go and I think that must stretch the stomach. My DS would never ever take more than 6oz at the absolute most with the way I fed him.

yeah my kids are both skinny as anything. in first 4 months they were demand bfed so can't comment there on formula but cos #1 never demanded it just didn't work for us and she was off the chart. they were mix/bottle fed from 4m so my earlier comment was based on that, i needed the routine so i could remember to feed her and dd didn't demand so i needed to offer.

oh yes and i have seen a few bottle fed babes who had a bottle anytime they made a noise - with no real concern it seemed for the amount they got over the day - and they clearly had too much food. whereas i'd be happy to stick a breast feeder on at any point, i would be more aware with a bottle feeder that's all.

Those times would be the times I would aim to give him his bottles, but I found that in the morning and early pm he would go much longer than 4 hours but then it would bunch up as the day went on. He always had water inbetween which he spat at me.

As long as he's happy and had some milk from each bottle I didn't tend to stick to exactly 4 hours.

Anyway thats a complete pain for you as well a case of Oh stop the car darling it's 3.30 must feed the baby NOW!

panic pants i xpost with you but mine were same. I feed them when they want now but they have a self imposed routine and they get their food at around the same times they used to have bottles. bfast, mid morn snack, lunch, avo snack, tea, evening snack Grin. one of the reasons i don't give them biscuits etc b4 lunch is cos of the weight issue, need them to have a filling meal, but apart from that i pump em up.
