Unsettled / unhappy 2 month old - is he overly hungry?

My baby is 2 months today. He was really a happy baby but ive noticed a change over last couple of days.

I breast fed solely till abt 5 wks. then combination then realised he was a changed baby after starting to use extra hungry formula. Now he's purely on formuka and was happy/sleeping/great. last couple of days Ive noticed significant change. he seems miserable/ doesnt want to sleep/ overly alert. like he'll start to fall asleep then jolt himself awake seconds later. yesterday he didnt sleep all day - is this normal? Not even a little nap.

He seems like hes never full to me... anyone had this problem? my partner said its like hes had an expresso all of a sudden. feeding used to make him full happy and sleepy. like a milk coma. now its like nothing makes him content.

Growth spurt? I seem to remember my LO doing the whole non napping thing around that time.

I've got no useful advice I'm afraid but if it's any consolation my eight week old baby is exactly the same at the moment, it's driving me bonkers. She is sleeping a bit longer overnight so I think she might just be rejigging her schedule and it's making her overtired maybe. You have my sympathy!

I wouldn't worry about one or two days of odd sleep - babies change a LOT in a very short space of time. The jolting could well be the moro reflex.

How much milk is your DS taking a day? Hungry baby formulas mean that babies aren't taking as many calories in a day as they might otherwise; they sit heavier on the stomach and make babies feel 'full' for longer. They're supposed to feed fairly frequently at 8 weeks still, and wake up a fair bit. It can also cause issues with wind and constipation, if he's feeling uncomfortable then that will make him miserable. How was he on standard formula?

It could also be that he's getting overtired and then struggling to get to sleep at all.

I would say growth spurt too. It doesn't just affect how they feed, it can change their whole demeanour !
Re the naps, have you tried taking him for a walk in the buggy, before he gets overtired for his usual first nap time - eg 1.5 to 2 hours after he wakes. If he has one good nap to get him started for the day, good sleep might follow good sleep....

Snap! DD is 2 months old today. Over the past couple of days she has changed her eating / sleeping routine and has dropped a night feed now. She is however eating LOADS during the day - basically doubling intake at some feeds. Presumably because she needs to get the calories on board during the day before a long sleep. So that may be one issue? Her napping has also changed (I just let her sleep when she wants except after 5pm) - she's slept for much longer at just 1 or 2 long naps, rather than lots of catnaps. Could he be trying to readjust?

Thanks all for your replies. I am still trying to figure out what it is - thought it might be really bad wind yesterday. People have suggested it is his 'Wonder Week'. He just generally seems unhappy if he's not sleeping. It had just got easier - then he changed overnight. It's like he always wants to be held and he cries a lot more than he did before. I suppose it's just a learning process every day! gggrrrrr....
